Drawings produced by students from the state education network of Pará are the highlight of a virtual exhibition launched on the website of the network Uma Concertação pela Amazônia, in partnership with the State Department of Education (Seduc). The exhibition is a continuation of the homonymous exhibition held in November 2024, during the event "Amazon and New Economies," promoted by the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM) in Belém.

The initiative arose from the drawing contest "Colors of the Future," promoted by Seduc to select illustrations created by public school students to compose educational materials for the department. More than just a selection process, the contest was conceived as an invitation for young people to express, through art, their emotions, experiences, and hopes about the future of the Amazon.

"This virtual exhibition was born from a contest held by Seduc for our students to present ideas and proposals through drawings with environmental themes. These works were selected to illustrate educational materials, such as the Environmental Education notebook. We are already in the second edition of the contest, and now the drawings make up this exhibition in partnership with the network Uma Concertação pela Amazônia," explains Mauro Tavares, coordinator of Environmental Education at Seduc.

The exhibition features 23 works, each accompanied by an explanatory audio recorded by the authors themselves. The proposal offers a sensitive and immersive experience, allowing the audience to understand the students' interpretations and the meaning behind each illustration, enriching the visual narrative with a personal dimension.

"These drawings reflect the positioning, ideas, and perceptions of our students regarding environmental issues. They are beautiful works, and we invite everyone to access the website of Uma Concertação pela Amazônia to check out the exhibition and hear, in the voices of the authors themselves, the messages conveyed in their creations," reinforces Tavares.

More than highlighting the talent and creativity of young people from Pará, the exhibition reaffirms the fundamental role of education in building a sustainable future. The initiative also values the active listening of youth, making students protagonists in discussions about the present and future of the Amazon — and, by extension, the planet.

Environmental Education in schools

Since the first semester of 2024, the State Department of Education of Pará has begun to offer, mandatorily, the curricular component of Environmental Education at all stages of education in the state network. The proposal can also be adopted by municipalities, based on the Policy for Education for the Environment, Sustainability, and Climate.

According to Seduc, Pará is a pioneer in implementing a mandatory component focused on sustainability, which encourages student engagement in fundamental issues for the state. The measure also strengthens Pará's role as the host of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will be held in 2025.

The network - Uma Concertação pela Amazônia is a broad, diverse, and plural network of people, institutions, and companies formed to seek solutions for the conservation and sustainable development of this territory and the improvement of the quality of life of those who live in it.

The initiative is a continuation of the project Amazônia Possível, a movement of the Brazilian business sector created in 2019 to bring concrete proposals for the sustainable development of the Amazon to COP15 (held in Madrid, Spain). The movement was supported by the Brazil Coalition, Climate, Forests and Agriculture, Brazil Network of the Global Compact, System B, and Instituto Arapyaú.
