Metropolitan Hospital promotes burn prevention action at a factory in Ananindeua
The unit is the only one in the North with a Burn Treatment Center. From January to March of this year, 143 burn victims were treated

Aligned with the national effort to reduce burn accidents, the Metropolitan Emergency Hospital (HMUE), located in Ananindeua, the metropolitan region of Belém, carried out another educational action outside its premises on burn accident prevention.
The activity "Prevention is the best treatment" is part of an annual calendar of external actions carried out by the hospital and took place this Tuesday, June 5, for employees of a food industry in Ananindeua. On this occasion, the nursing coordinator of the Burn Treatment Center (CTQ), Nellyane Ferro, gave a lecture on the dangers associated with the improper handling of flammable products and ways to prevent accidents, as well as providing guidance on first aid in cases of severe burns.
“Prevention is the best way to avoid accidents. Many burns occur due to carelessness in daily life. In this work environment, it is essential to take the guidelines seriously, considering that a single accident can cause severe injuries of extreme complexity that require prolonged hospitalization,” emphasized the professional.

“In the corporate environment, many employees deal with materials that can cause burns, whether in industry or even in domestic services. The idea was to alert them about the risks and teach preventive measures,” she reflected.
Among the participants, Neuzilene Santos, 49, who works as a cook, highlighted the importance of dialogue on the topic. “The hospital's training was very effective, considering that we deal daily with potential accidents and need to follow the prevention guidelines presented. I learned today that small actions, such as using protective equipment, can make all the difference in caring for my life and that of others as well,” she said.

Vanila Castro, who has been working as a cook for over 10 years and deals daily with accident risks, thanked the opportunity provided by the public health unit. “This action brought awareness to our team, which is now more attentive to avoid accidents and act in emergency situations. I am very grateful for the hospital's care, which already serves so many people with various traumas and still dedicates a schedule to education outside its facilities. It is a privilege.”

Pioneering in the Unified Health System (SUS) in the North region of Brazil, the CTQ of HMUE has a specialized multidisciplinary team and cutting-edge technology to ensure, in addition to first aid, surgeries, hospitalizations, and treatment of injuries.
The center has wards, emergency and dressing rooms, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), surgical block, as well as an outpatient clinic.
In 2024, 641 patients were treated. In the first three months of 2025, there were 143 cases.
"The main differential is the individualized care, according to the needs of each patient who arrives at the CTQ with injuries of different origins and extents, which makes treatment even more delicate. We have had several cases of patients who arrived in critical condition, received treatment, recovered, and returned to their homes. This is our main objective,” pointed out Nellyane.
