Cultural Station of Marabá encourages reading, writing, and artistic activities in southeastern Pará
A new space was delivered on April 5, a month ago, by the State Government, and records a high attendance from the population
In addition to expanding the collection of public libraries in the southeastern region of Pará, the new Cultural Station of Marabá, delivered a month ago by the State Government, carries out activities to promote reading, writing, and artistic initiation workshops for children and adults, through the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP).
“This first month has already shown the importance of the space for the region. We had great civil participation, from the school community and NGOs enriching the station. It is a space that is truly being well utilized and will certainly leave a legacy not only for the culture of Marabá but also for the culture in the south and southeast of Pará,” says Thiago Miranda, president of the FCP.
The Martinho Motta da Silveira School was one of the teaching units in Marabá that took students for activities in the new space. “The Station has a very significant meaning for the local community. It is a very pleasant space, with various dimensions of study, and will certainly help to spread literature much more in our municipality. It is a rich experience, even to value regional literature and to promote a freer reading, with a diversity of options,” celebrates Cristina Arcanjo, the school director.
SUSTAINABLE STRUCTURE - The space houses a library, auditorium, a small cinema, has computers and a reading room. This is the first public library with a sustainable service kiosk. The equipment consists of a core built with reforested wood and with 'FSC Certification', surrounded by an external structure made from the plastic of approximately 210 PET bottles, removed from the environment and recycled. The building also has solar panels and a water reuse system.
The artist Rildo Brasil has the exhibition “Marabá of the past and present” at the Station during the month of May. “I am the first artist to exhibit in the space and I was very happy with the invitation. There are 20 works that will be displayed throughout the month of May. The Station is a valuable cultural facility,” he commented.
The Cultural Station is the eleventh cultural facility managed by the FCP and the first outside the capital of Pará. In Belém, the FCP is responsible for the Arthur Vianna Public Library, House of Arts, House of Language, Cine Líbero Luxardo, Margarida Schivasappa Theater, Waldemar Henrique Experimental Theater, and the galleries Theodoro Braga, Benedito Nunes, and Ruy Meira.
