Óbidos Waterway Terminal ensures comfort and safety for users and tourists in western Pará
From 2019 to 2025, the State has delivered 28 new terminals and docks, benefiting populations that depend on the river network for transportation
Reconstructed by the state government, through the Port and Waterway Company of Pará (CPH), the Óbidos Waterway Terminal, in the Lower Amazon Integration Region, has benefited more than 50,000 users in western Pará since it was delivered in 2021. With an average of 150 passengers daily, it is one of the references in the waterway modal, in a region of Pará where rivers are the main means of transportation.
“The municipality of Óbidos is one of the main tourist routes in the Lower Amazon region, receiving thousands of tourists throughout the year. Having a quality waterway terminal demonstrates the state government's commitment to the municipality and the region, bringing more comfort and safety to users,” highlights CPH president, Hilton Aguiar.
Cristiano Lima, a general services assistant, emphasizes the improvements provided to users by the Terminal, as well as the maintenance of the space. “After the works, everything got much better. We have more structure and comfort. In fact, the space has all the necessary accessibility for people with disabilities (PwDs). And what is very good is that residents and visitors are taking care of the Terminal's structure,” says Cristiano.
Investment - With the reconstruction, the port structure gained a boarding room; rooms for official agencies; men's, women's, and PwD restrooms; a snack bar; luggage storage; and ticket sales counters, in addition to a Sewage Treatment Station (ETE), internal signage, and new electrical and plumbing installations.
The state invested nearly R$ 4 million in the reconstruction and adaptation of the site, according to the standards of the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (Antaq).
The Waterway Terminal also features two articulated metal ramps, 25 meters long, complying with accessibility standards; an intermediate floating dock six meters long and the main floating dock, 25 meters long. After being delivered, the space began to be managed by the Óbidos City Hall, serving as a reference for those traveling to municipalities in Pará and Amazonas.
*Maintenance* - According to Antônio Pinheiro, administrator of the Óbidos Waterway Terminal, “our port has begun to ensure safety for the boarding and disembarking of the population, in addition to a comfortable space for everyone. And the space, which was precarious before the works, is very well maintained, especially in terms of cleanliness and organization. The population contributes a lot to the maintenance, which is essential for the continuity of quality service.”
From 2019 to January 2025, the Government of Pará constructed and reconstructed 28 terminals and docks. Currently, CPH is executing eight construction, renovation, and adaptation works for terminals in the cities of Breves, Chaves, Salvaterra, and Oeiras do Pará, in the Marajó Integration Region; Mocajuba, in the Tocantins Region; Belém (including the Icoaraci District), in the Guajará Integration Region; and Senador José Porfírio, in the Xingu Region.
