Hemopa holds blood donation campaign at the Usina da Paz in Guamá, Belém
Action mobilizes residents of one of the most populous neighborhoods in the capital and reinforces the importance of solidarity to save lives
The Pará Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation (Hemopa), in partnership with the State Secretariat for Citizen Engagement (Seac), held a blood donation campaign on Tuesday (13) at the Usina da Paz (UsiPaz) in the Guamá neighborhood of Belém. The action was designed to bring the service closer to the population and expand the reach of voluntary donations.
The initiative is part of the "Solidarity Moms" campaign, developed in honor of Mother's Day, and involved mobilizing residents of the region. The structure included a mobile unit and a technical team from Hemopa, ensuring comfort and safety for the volunteers.
The Usinas da Paz are citizenship complexes integrated into the Territories for Peace Program (TerPaz), implemented by the Government of Pará through Seac, to promote social inclusion, reduce violence, and improve the quality of life for the population in vulnerable areas.
Social worker Maria Alice Loureiro highlighted the strategic nature of the action. "We are at the Usina da Paz in Guamá, a space that concentrates various social policies and essential services. We came with this awareness movement, seeking to sensitize the community to the importance of blood donation. The expectation is to reach the goal with the support of the Usina itself and the mobilization we are carrying out in the territory," she explained.
The general coordinator of UsiPaz Guamá, Renato Ferreira, reinforced the role of the partnership with Hemopa. "This initiative goes beyond collection. It is a gesture of solidarity that mobilizes the community and also our collaborators. The campaign was integrated into the Mother's Day program, but carries a much greater value of citizenship and empathy. We made extensive outreach to involve as many residents as possible," he stated.
Among the participants, donor Cheila Pereira shared her experience. A resident of Guamá, she has been donating blood for four years and recounted how she overcame her fear of needles to make the gesture a habit. "I always wanted to, but I was terrified of injections. One day I saw the Hemopa bus on Presidente Vargas and decided to give it a try. Since then, I haven't stopped. I've donated in several neighborhoods. It's gratifying to know that I'm helping to save lives," she reported.
