Adepará launches animal registration update campaign
With a herd free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, registration is essential for farmers to keep their animals protected and free from diseases.

The Government of Pará, through the State Agency for Agricultural Defense of Pará (ADEPARÁ), begins from May 15 to June 13 the campaign for updating the registration of animals existing on rural properties. During this period, the rural producer or legal representative of the property needs to go to an Adepará unit with an official document and a complete list of all species existing on the properties, such as; cattle, buffalo, horses, donkeys, mules, pigs, sheep, goats, birds, bees, and aquatic animals.
With the recognition of a foot-and-mouth disease-free area without vaccination, the Agency for Defense has initiated the process of replacing the vaccine with surveillance based on risk factors such as; constant clinical inspection of animals susceptible to foot-and-mouth disease, mapping of properties, regular inspection of properties, and agricultural registration.
“The update of animal registration was done by the defense agency at the time of vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease. With the withdrawal of the vaccine, it is a very important moment for the rural producer to declare their herd and maintain health, safeguarding their animals, in addition to avoiding administrative sanctions and even suspension of the issuance of the GTA (Animal Transit Guide),” said the general director of Adepará, Jamir Macedo.

Update of registration - Agricultural registration gathers the sanitary data of livestock that allows generating information and planning strategies for surveillance and animal health. It is mandatory for the rural producer to carry out this to maintain the health of the herd free from diseases according to decree No. 5,741/2026 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) meeting a requirement of the Unified System for Agricultural Sanitary Attention (SUASA) and the sanitary code of terrestrial animals of the World Organization for Animal Health (OMSA).
“All states of the Federation that have achieved the sanitary status of free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination must carry out registration update campaigns to keep the herd under control and thus be able to act quickly in the face of increased disease in animals,” comments the veterinarian and manager of traceability and agricultural registration of Adepará, Barbra Lopes.
Agricultural registration provides, among other information, knowledge of territories, which allows the development of strategies for prevention, mitigation, control, and eradication of diseases promoting the health of the herd.
