On this Friday (16), the Civil Police of Pará, through the Division for Combating Crimes Against Vulnerable Groups Committed by Cyber Means (DCCV), launched the operation "Maio Laranja" which resulted in the execution of a search and seizure warrant and an arrest in the act, in Belém.

The operation was supported by the personnel of the Scientific Police of Pará (PCEPA) and was designed to arrest a suspect of acquiring child sexual abuse material through virtual means.

Throughout the action, a search and seizure warrant issued by the 1st Court of Police Inquiries and Precautionary Measures of Belém was executed. The searches took place in a property located in the Tenoné neighborhood.

“Our police team arrested a man in the act after confirming that he was storing audiovisual materials of child sexual abuse on his mobile phone. During the investigations, we seized a hard drive and the mobile phone of the suspect, with the aim of sending them for analysis and forensic examination,” said Delegate Lua Figueiredo, head of the DCCV.

Awareness and Maio Laranja
"Maio Laranja" is a national awareness campaign to combat the abuse and sexual exploitation of children and adolescents that takes place annually. In consideration of Law 9.970/2000, May 18 was established as the national day to combat child sexual abuse and exploitation in Brazil.

"There is no doubt about the degree of harm that cyber crimes related to child sexual abuse cause to children and adolescents. Thus, the operation 'Maio Laranja' is attentive to the national campaign and aims to ensure the full protection of the victims of these crimes that deeply violate the sexual dignity, honor, and image of the vulnerable," concluded Delegate Lua Figueiredo.
