Cancer patient and wife formalize union in wedding at the Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas
Erivelton Pereira and Camila de Jesus have been together for 12 years and have three children. The ceremony was held in the chapel of the unit, with the presence of staff, family, and friends.

An afternoon of emotion, love, and hope. That was May 15, 2025, the date of the wedding of Erivelton da Silva Pereira, 33 years old, and Camila de Jesus Gomes, 28. He has been a cancer patient at the Dr. Waldemar Penna Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas (HRBA) in Santarém, western Pará, for three years and has been hospitalized in the unit for treatment for eight months. Camila has always been by her husband's side during his fight against cancer. Recently, they decided to formalize a 12-year union that has already borne fruit: the couple's three children, Edinelson Luís, Edgar, and Estevão.
"It was a decision made by both of us. We had this idea, but we didn't have the means to have the wedding. And the hospital helped us, and it happened. We didn't expect it to be like this, but it was very beautiful. We thank everyone, the HRBA management, doctors, nurses, technicians, everyone. And now we are here. Married and happy. It is the realization of a dream for us," Erivelton expressed his gratitude.

The ceremony took place in the chapel of the unit, with the presence of staff who accompany the patient daily, family, and friends of the couple. A justice of the peace and a pastor officiated the wedding, which moved everyone present. During the exchange of rings, the couple's eldest son, Edinelson, 11 years old, helped his father and placed the wedding ring on his mother's finger.
For Camila, even though the union occurred in a way different from what she imagined, the moment was perfect. "I always asked God that I wanted to get married. But I didn't say where or how. And if it happened this way, it was meant to be. I am just grateful, first to God who allowed this to happen. Then, to the Regional Hospital that authorized it. Nurses, technicians, everyone who contributed to make this happen. It was wonderful, I can't explain. Our children are our life. We have come this far, and I believe we will remain for many years. We will not give up this battle. It is for them that we will continue fighting and we will win."
Mrs. Edileusa da Silva Pereira is the patient's mother and was also very moved to be able to witness the marriage. She has nine children, and Erivelton is the first to get married. "The ceremony was very beautiful, wonderful. It was something he really wanted. For us, it is a joy, despite the moment he is going through. But God knows everything. The hospital is wonderful, they don't let anything be lacking, and many nurses and technicians are here because they have become our friends."
