Actions of the Integrated River Bases contribute to the dismantling of crimes committed in the rivers of Pará
In four months, more than 80 inspection actions were carried out, addressing 781 vessels and seizing over 500 kilograms of drugs.

To ensure the confrontation of challenges related to security, such as drug trafficking, environmental crimes, and crime in general, in the vast river network of Pará, the State Government, through the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), continues to guarantee ongoing investments and the strengthening of security actions in the rivers through the Integrated River Bases, installed in the regions of Marajó and Baixo Amazonas.
According to the head of Segup, Ualame Machado, the river bases are fundamental investments within the public security strategy for the rivers of the state, given the territorial dimension that Pará possesses.
“I usually say that our rivers are our streets, and certainly due to their vast extent, many routes to other states, as well as other municipalities in Pará, are through the river network; these routes also become a corridor for criminal groups to transport drugs and other illicit goods via river transport,” he pointed out.

Strategies
The Secretary of Security also adds the importance of monitoring areas and strategizing actions at specific points. “Based on intelligence surveys and all the monitoring carried out by the public security system regarding areas used for criminal activities, we installed River Bases at strategic points in the rivers of Pará, and from them, we operate daily with integrated actions between security forces and regulatory agencies to curb all types of crime that may occur in these regions, especially drug trafficking that also uses the rivers as routes for the flow of narcotics coming from other states, either to supply the illegal trade in Pará or as a passage to other states and even countries. So, all investments and actions reinforce that we have been acting very strongly in combating these crimes and dismantling criminal groups. In fact, with the third river base already over 65% of the works completed to be installed between Abaetetuba and Barcarena, we will complete the strategy of the bases in the state, further strengthening the fight against crime,” Ualame stated.
Another important responsibility for the actions is monitoring through technologies, such as drones and sonar systems that assist in mapping routes and vessels to carry out patrols based on previously gathered information, increasing the efficiency of river actions. The results are evidenced by the productivity recorded in the first quadrimester of 2025, released by the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) this Thursday (15).
Productivity of River Bases - In the first quadrimester of 2025, the actions of the River Bases 'Antônio Lemos', installed on the right bank of the Tajapuru River, in Breves in Marajó, and 'Candiru', installed on the Amazon River, in Óbidos in Baixo Amazonas, resulted in the seizure of more than 500 kg of drugs, already examined. Also seized were 850 kg of shredded paper with cocaine impregnated that is under examination. In addition to 770 kg of fish and 470 m³ of wood seized.
The actions also resulted in 13 arrests in the act and 11 compliance with judicial warrants, as well as the seizure of 6 firearms and 5 mobile phones. Additionally, 5 vehicles with restrictions for theft or robbery were recovered, and two vessels were seized.
There were also 781 approaches to vessels and 37,426 approaches to people using maritime transport.
More seizures - The first half of May also shows significant results, such as drug seizures, where in one week more than 1 ton was seized in the actions of the 'Antônio Lemos' Base, and about 40 kg at the Candiru Base. The actions continue to ensure security in the regions and dismantle illicit practices.
Proximity to the population
The River Bases installed at strategic points also ensure the proximity of security forces to the population residing in riverside areas, increasingly promoting the sense of security and trust in the work carried out daily by the agents. In addition to ensuring a partnership for receiving information that contributes to investigations and combating crime in the areas.
