Cultural Foundation of Pará and Ministry of Culture promote meeting on public libraries in Redenção
During the meeting, 19,800 books were delivered to municipal libraries located in the Araguaia region.
"The head thinks where the feet tread." It was with this quote that Marina de Lima Rabelo, coordinator of the National Library System, began the conversation with the audience made up of public managers from the Araguaia integration region in Pará. Representatives from 12 of the 15 cities that make up the region were present, including culture and education secretaries and library coordinators who filled the auditorium of the municipal environmental park of Redenção this Wednesday, the 21st.
The conversation, which extended throughout the day, took place during the first edition of the Meeting with Public Managers and Parliamentarians (EGPP), an event promoted by the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP) in partnership with the Ministry of Culture (MinC), aimed at strengthening municipal initiatives to promote culture through books, reading, and libraries.
"The goal of the meeting is to stimulate actions that result in the strengthening, construction, or reopening of public libraries, generating a real and positive impact on the formation of readers and the education of our State. Like the reopening we recently did in the municipality of São Domingos do Araguaia," details the president of the Cultural Foundation of Pará, Thiago Miranda.
In Redenção, the representative of the Ministry of Culture conducted the course created especially for the EGPP, aimed at training public managers to raise funds through parliamentary amendments. This is revealed by the coordinator of the National Library System, Marina de Lima Rabelo.
"The agenda of Pará is very specific, and that’s why we created a course for this Meeting. It was very important for the Ministry to have this opportunity, alongside the Cultural Foundation of Pará, because it shows the municipality how the National Public Library System works, which is in line with the State System," she details.

According to her, initiatives like the EGPP encourage better dialogue between different levels of government. "We need mutual dialogue. We need to learn from the practices and dynamics of the State and, at the same time, bring federal information to all municipalities and territories in Pará," concludes Marina Rabelo.
The coordinator of the state library system, Marinilde Barbosa, and the economist, specialist in public management, Valdeise Rocha, employees of the Cultural Foundation of Pará, presented the scenario of public libraries in Pará and the actions promoted by the Foundation to strengthen this cultural equipment.
In practice - Margot Trindade, director of the municipal public library of Redenção, presented to those present how theory translates into practice when it comes to investment in public libraries. Through images, Margot made a timeline of the municipal library highlighting the main actions that led to improvements in the space. In the end, the librarian emphasized the importance of participating in the Meeting and the uniqueness of the initiative.
"I have worked as a librarian for 19 years and there has never been information about this type of incentive that we can access to make improvements in libraries," highlights the public servant.
Reinforcement in the collection - At the end of the Meeting, the Cultural Foundation of Pará donated 19,800 new books to the seven municipalities in the region, which were contemplated by the Call for Proposals for the Cession of Works by Pará Authors.
The municipalities that received an increase in their library collections were: Água Azul do Norte, Cumaru do Norte, Ourilândia, Redenção, Rio Maria, Xinguara, and São Félix do Xingu.
