Hospital de Clínicas carries out awareness action for Orange May
The initiative raised awareness among professionals, parents, and caregivers about the signs of violence and child sexual abuse

In reference to Orange May – Month of Combating Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents, the Gaspar Vianna Clinical Hospital (HC), in Belém, promoted a series of awareness actions aimed at health professionals and families of children hospitalized in the institution's pediatric units.
The initiative involved the Pediatric Clinic, Neonatal ICU, and Pediatric ICU, with the aim of raising awareness among parents, mothers, and caregivers about the signs of violence and child sexual abuse, as well as reinforcing the role of health professionals in identifying, notifying, and reporting these cases. “Our work is also one of alert: to alert families and professionals about the importance of recognizing signs and acting on any suspicion,” highlighted social worker Geice Cordeiro.

During the activities, discussion circles were held with parents and professionals to discuss prevention methods, warning signs in children and adolescents, and guidance on reporting channels. Topics such as early adultification, care regarding children's exposure, the importance of knowing who they are with and where the gifts they receive come from, as well as the risks associated with sexual exploitation were addressed.
The campaign also reinforced the importance of institutional spaces, such as schools and hospitals, in disseminating information about prevention and combating violence. “Disseminating and talking about this topic saves lives. The data is alarming, and most victims are still female, particularly black girls, who are often violated within their own homes,” added Geice.
