Casa das Artes hosts a discussion on 'Cinema and Journalism' this Wednesday (28)
With free admission, the event is aimed at people interested in cinema, communication, and current affairs

Casa das Artes will host another edition of the traditional Cinema Roundtable next Wednesday, 28, at 6:30 PM, held in partnership with the Center for Cinematographic Studies (CEC). With free admission and open to the public, this time the conversation will focus on "Cinema and Journalism," exploring the encounters and tensions between these two narrative languages.
"The Cinema Roundtable is a cultural action that we promote monthly, and the theme of this edition is especially relevant for thinking about the challenges of contemporary communication. The intersection between cinema and journalism opens up space for intriguing reflections, supported by films that help to understand the complexities of both areas," says Marco Antonio Moreira.
The meeting will be mediated by professor and film critic Marco Antonio Moreira, coordinator of the CEC, and will feature special guest journalist Carolina Klautau. Together, they will lead a deep reflection on the role of cinema in the representation of journalism and its influence on society's perception of the press.
Caroline Klautau holds a PhD in communication sciences and a master's degree in communication from Faculdade Cásper Líbero. In addition, she is a specialist in Corporate Communication and Public Relations.
Among the topics to be discussed are the historical trajectory of the relationship between the two fields, the veracity of cinematic narratives based on journalistic facts, and the boundaries between reality and fiction on screen. The conversation will also address the strength of investigative journalism in cinema, with emblematic films such as "Spotlight" and "All the President's Men," which illustrate the impact of the press on public life.
Issues such as journalistic ethics, media manipulation, sensationalism, and the risks of misinformation are also part of the debate. The event also proposes to reflect on how cinema has positioned itself in the face of the phenomenon of fake news and the new dilemmas faced by journalism in light of the rise of artificial intelligence and the role of independent media.
The aim of the roundtable is to foster a critical analysis of how cinema represents journalism and how these representations shape the collective imagination about the press and contemporary dilemmas of information.
