Agents from the Integrated Fluvial Base Antônio Lemos, linked to the Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat of Pará (Segup), seized 24.59 cubic meters of sawn wood from various species, which were being transported without the documentation required by law. The seizure occurred last Tuesday (27), during an action of the "Protector of Borders and Boundaries" Operation, in the municipality of Breves, in the Marajó region.

The irregular material was found aboard the vessel F/B Silva, which was navigating near the village of Antônio Lemos. The vessel had departed from the municipality of Portel, in Pará, and was headed to the state of Amapá.

According to the Secretary of Public Security, Ualame Machado, the actions of the fluvial bases have been decisive in curbing illegal practices in the territory of Pará.

"The inspections of the fluvial bases continue to be fundamental in curbing any type of illicit activity in the fluvial network of Pará. This time, more than 24 meters of undocumented wood were seized from a vessel bound for Amapá, constituting an environmental crime. The wood and the vessel were seized, and the commander was fined after the procedures of the competent authorities. We continue to take firm actions to combat these illegal practices," emphasized the head of Segup.

Details of the seizure - During the inspection of the vessel, the team from the Environmental Military Police found the irregular transport of the following volumes of wood: 5.22 m³ of guaruba; 4.15 m³ of angelim; 4.96 m³ of acapu; 10.26 m³ of mourão, from various species.

None of the loads presented the mandatory documentation required by environmental legislation.

In light of the irregularities, the Vessel Deposit Term and the Wood Deposit Term were drawn up, in addition to a fine of R$ 6,640.30 imposed on the vessel's operator. The penalty was determined based on the environmental infractions verified by the agents.

The "Protector of Borders and Boundaries" Operation is coordinated by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, in partnership with state agencies, and aims to intensify the fight against cross-border and environmental crimes in hard-to-reach areas, such as the Amazonian fluvial network.
