Program highlights sexual and reproductive rights on International Day for Women's Health
Lecture with representatives from Sespa reinforces the importance of the Women's Hospital of Pará in accessing women's health and combating maternal mortality

The Women's Hospital of Pará (HMPA), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), held a program on Wednesday (28) in commemoration of the International Day for Women's Health and the National Day for the Reduction of Maternal Mortality. Held in the auditorium of the unit in Belém, the event focused on strengthening sexual and reproductive rights and access to comprehensive health for the female audience.
The initiative brought together health professionals and managers to discuss reproductive planning strategies and expand the debate on the use of safe and effective contraceptive methods, which are essential in reducing maternal mortality.
The program included a lecture by the state coordinator of Women's Health at Sespa, Nicole Mendes, who addressed the advances and challenges in public policies aimed at women's health. Nurse Fátima Bastos also participated, highlighting the importance of expanding the availability of contraceptive methods, especially long-acting ones.
“The integration of the health network is essential. The Women's Hospital has a keen eye on the comprehensive health of women, including those in situations of violence. Our goal is to transform this unit into a reference center for sexual and reproductive health in the State, focusing on the expansion of LARCs – long-acting, reversible, safe, and effective contraceptive methods. This is a priority strategy for reducing maternal mortality, with the organization of the entire state health network for this care,” emphasized Nicole Mendes.

The general director of HMPA, intensivist physician Nelma Machado, emphasized the institution's commitment to guaranteeing rights. “This program represents a collective effort to ensure that every woman has access to information, health, and the necessary care at all stages of life. Our hospital plays a fundamental role in this process, welcoming, guiding, and providing humanized support to those who need it most,” she stated.

The mobilization reinforces the commitment of the Government of Pará to women's health and the implementation of care, prevention, and welcoming actions, ensuring more dignity and quality of life for the female population throughout the State.
