Pará continues with municipalities outside the ranking of the most violent cities in the world
For the third consecutive year, no municipality in Pará is listed in the ranking of the most violent cities in the world, says the International Security Organization

The municipalities of Pará are not included in the survey that presents the 50 most violent cities in the world. The study was released by the International Organization "Security, Justice and Peace", a Mexican institution that conducts the research annually, based on the homicide rates of cities with more than 300,000 inhabitants. The data corresponds to the year 2024 and was presented this year.
In 2016, Belém was ranked as the 10th most violent city in the world, and in 2018, the capital of Pará still remained on this list in 12th place. The ranking numbers are based on general statistics of violence, such as the number of homicides. The data is obtained from official sources, such as those reported by public agencies to the Ministry of Justice.
The Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), Ualame Machado, highlights the excellent result as another example of the positive advancement of strategies to combat crime and promote safety for the people of Pará.
"With a few years in this new management, we managed to remove Belém and all other cities in Pará from this list. Another study has just been released by a Mexican entity that conducts a global study on the 50 most violent cities in the world. Of this total, 8 cities are from Brazil, and none of them are from Pará. Once again, this reaffirms the reduction of crime in our state, which we attribute to the integration of security forces, strong investment in equipment, artificial intelligence, human intelligence, and also the increase in the workforce of our corporations."

Segup also emphasizes that the improvement in public safety indicators in Pará involves collective work with the implementation of social programs aimed at youth, women, and families in vulnerable situations. One example is the Territories for Peace (TerPaz) program with the Peace Factories, an initiative that has great community engagement in all the territories where it is implemented.
Furthermore, the Pará government continues to invest resources. In 2024 alone, more than R$ 90 million were allocated by the Government of Pará for the acquisition of equipment, construction of units, and equipping security forces.
In 2024, from January to December, Pará recorded 1,890 intentional lethal violent crimes (CVLI), which include homicide, femicide, robbery followed by death, and bodily injury resulting in death, according to the analysis by the Criminal Intelligence and Analysis Secretariat (Siac), linked to Segup. This result is considered the best year for public safety in the State since 2010, with records below 2,000 cases of CVLI.
Compared to 2018, which recorded 4,051 CVLIs, 2024 achieved a reduction of 53.34%, representing 2,161 lives saved. In comparison with 2023, which recorded 2,140 violent crimes, the reduction is 11.68%.
By May 2025, there was a decrease of approximately 60% compared to 2018 in CVLI rates. According to the survey, in the accumulated data for 2025, from January 1 to May 31, 726 CVLI cases were recorded in Pará, compared to 1,803 in 2018 – more than 1,000 cases less between the periods. Compared to the same period in 2024, when 817 records were counted, the reduction is 11.14% and expands to 18.4% when compared to the first five months of 2023.
