In the context of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (Cop 30), in Belém, in November of this year, a technical cooperation agreement (tct) was signed on Tuesday (3) at the 63rd Ruralist Meeting in the capital of Pará, with the participation of Governor Helder Barbalho and Vice Governor Hana Ghassan. The institutional cooperation partnership involves the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of Pará (Emater) and the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Pará (Faepa)/National Rural Learning Service (Senar).

With the partnership, starting in August, Emater is expected to triple the services in its two institutional laboratories: in Bragança, on the Caeté River; and in Conceição do Araguaia, in the Araguaia region. According to Emater's president, Joniel Abreu, a lawyer with a doctorate in Law, the offer should cover demands not only from small farmers but also from medium and large rural producers throughout Pará: “It is a process of technological diffusion with socioeconomic and environmental results,” explains the manager.

For Abreu, the work of the Government of Pará, through Emater, represents above all science in the field: “The greatest symbol for agribusiness is not simply 'tractors' or 'extensive areas with soybean planting', for example: I speak of the human brain as a representation of science. It is scientific knowledge that makes the use of technologies for productive expansion possible. It is also science that points to the predatory use of nature as the cause of climate change. It is scientific knowledge that also states that only production with responsibility in environmental management will guarantee our existence,” he stated at the event.

Cooperation between Emater and Faepa includes data sharing

In addition to highlighting soil analysis laboratories, the cooperation agreement between Emater and Faepa includes the transfer of methodologies, sharing of databases to guide public policies, and private sector investment in the scope of social responsibility, as well as promoting training and strategic events.

One of the goals of the Work Plan, aimed at strengthening the productive chain of meliponiculture, is the installation, still this year, of an experimental unit for queen bee breeding within the complex of the Agroecological Training Center, Technological Innovation, and Applied Research of Northeast Pará (UDB), in Bragança.
