The Government of Pará delivered on this Monday (9), the asphalt paving work of Rua das Rosas, in the Benguí neighborhood, in Belém. Integrating a new circulation corridor between Avenida Centenário and Rodovia Augusto Montenegro, the road is part of the macro-drainage services of the Benguí and Marambaia Channels, one of the urban infrastructure and mobility investments that will benefit over 500,000 people as part of the legacy of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in November.

"This is a very important work, as it benefits the residents of Rua das Rosas, but also integrates the neighborhoods of Mangueirão and Benguí. We are able to create a new alternative to facilitate the movement of those living in this community. It is a step, as we are working on the Benguí and Marambaia Channels, and with the new bridge we will create a large avenue, integrating from Rodovia Augusto Montenegro to Avenida Centenário," emphasized the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho.

Vice Governor Hana Ghassan made a point of highlighting that the asphalt works that have been delivered by the State since 2019 are improving the daily lives of the population of Belém and other municipalities in Pará.

"We are realizing a dream for many residents. Our joy in having taken on the commitment and fulfilled it is only surpassed by that of the residents here on Rua das Rosas. We are in a large asphalt paving program not only in Belém but throughout the state of Pará. Asphalt enhances the streets, properties, neighborhoods, and cities. Only those who have a paved street know the importance and the change in life," said the vice governor, who is also the coordinator of the State COP30 Committee.

According to the mayor of Belém, Igor Normando, the work on Rua das Rosas also represents another advance in the partnership between the Federal, State, and Municipal governments within the investments for COP30. "This is one of many works that we will have the honor of inaugurating in our city. I have closely followed the work developed by Governor Helder Barbalho and Vice Governor Hana Ghassan. This is a service that will go down in history, as part of the largest macro-drainage program in Belém," he stated.

New road infrastructure and benefits for mobility

Rua das Rosas will be an important connecting route with easy access via Avenida dos Planetas, which surrounds the Benguí and Marambaia Channels, and will also relieve traffic on Avenida Mangueirão during major events at the Olympic Stadium of Pará. Over approximately 750 meters, the road received road adjustments with asphalt paving, accessible sidewalks, curbs, signage, water supply systems, sewage disposal, and drainage, in addition to backyard filling, with services managed by the State Department of Public Works (Seop).

A resident of Rua das Rosas for 32 years, Rosana Neves recalls the scene of abandonment of the road before the State's intervention and highlights the benefits guaranteed to the local population from the infrastructure and mobility works. "Here, people couldn't travel by bicycle, motorcycle, or car. The sewage was inadequate, everyone complained. When it rained, everything flooded, and water entered the houses. Now the children can go out and play. Everything is commendable. May more improvements like this come to us," she celebrated.

Benguí and Marambaia Channels – The works on the channels, which include the adjustment of Rua das Rosas, are over 80% completed. The project includes the rectification of nearly 1.9 kilometers of the channels, as well as infrastructure with the implementation of water supply networks, sewage disposal, drainage, and a Sewage Pumping Station. The investment is made by the Government of Pará, in partnership with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and the Federal Government.

Historic investment – Through the largest macro-drainage program in the history of Belém, the Government of Pará is advancing in a series of reurbanization works on the channels of the capital, to prevent flooding and improve the quality of life for over 500,000 people. The works encompass the Tucunduba, Murutucu, Tamandaré, and Una Basins. Since 2019, the State has already invested in the requalification of 17 channels in Belém, of which 13 are part of the COP30 legacy.

Deliveries – The requalification of Rua das Rosas is yet another work that the capital of Pará receives as a legacy of the COP30 event. In addition to the roads that are part of the "Asphalt COP30", the Government of Pará has already delivered the macro-drainage of the Timbó, Cipriano Santos channels and the first stage of Gentil Bittencourt.

"We continue to advance with the schedule of our works, all within the planned timeline, delivering benefits that directly change people's realities. These services, as legacies of COP30 for Belém, facilitate daily life, promote accessibility, and bring dignity to those who need it most. We will continue at this pace, transforming for the better the quality of life of those living in our capital," highlighted the Secretary of Public Works, Ruy Cabral.
