The Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP) delivered 33,200 books to public libraries in the ten municipalities that make up the Xingu integration region. The delivery took place this Tuesday (10), during the third edition of the Meeting with Public Managers and Parliamentarians (EGPP), held in Altamira.

The EGPP is an initiative of the FCP in partnership with the Ministry of Culture (MinC), to guide managers on fundraising through parliamentary amendments and the National Aldir Blanc Policy (PNAB). The action aims to promote access to reading and strengthen public libraries in Pará.

The ten municipalities in the region participated in the event, which reinforced the importance of the initiative. For the president of the FCP, Thiago Miranda, the participation demonstrates the interest of managers in investing in local culture.

“The Meeting with Managers was conceived by the Cultural Foundation and the Ministry of Culture and has been very well received in all regions it has visited. In Xingu, it was no different. Seeing the auditorium filled with Culture and Education secretaries shows not only the strength of the project but also the interest in valuing this important cultural equipment that is the library,” highlighted Thiago.

The training of managers was conducted by the coordinator of Reading Promotion at the Ministry of Culture, Marcus André Rocha. According to him, the proposal is to guide municipalities on how to structure projects for public libraries with resources from parliamentary amendments.

“Parliamentary amendments are part of our reality, and libraries cannot be left out. At the EGPP, we explain how to draft proposals, present them to parliamentarians, and ensure approval with the Ministry of Culture,” detailed Marcus André.

Libraries and reopening

Among the participants of the event was Raimunda Mascarenhas, Education and Culture technician of the Association of Municipalities of the Rio Amazonas, Santa Erem, Cuiabá, and Oeste do Xingu. She emphasized the importance of holding the meeting in the region and highlighted the role of libraries in society.

“This strengthening and engagement is a unique moment for us to think about the reopening of our public libraries. It is essential for our students, youth, and for all of society, which eagerly awaits the reactivation of these spaces in the Xingu region,” she stated.
