Chemist Day is celebrated with programming at CCSE and the Planetarium of Pará
The Center for Sciences and Planetarium of Pará (CCPPA) and the Center for Social Sciences and Education (CCSE) of the State University of Pará (Uepa) will promote a special program aimed at bringing Chemistry closer to society.

To celebrate National Chemist Day (June 18), the Center for Sciences and Planetarium of Pará (CCPPA) and the Center for Social Sciences and Education (CCSE) of the State University of Pará (Uepa) have prepared a special program to bring this fundamental science closer to society.
At CCPPA, the event will take place next Wednesday (18) and will feature an opening panel, a summit session, workshops, and a themed escape room. Registration is free, open to the public, and can be done by clicking here. This year's theme is "Education, Science, and Innovation," proposing a day of interactive experiences and reflections on the transformative role of Chemistry in everyday life.
Among the offered workshops are:
- Escape Room Among Leaves and Formulas: The Forest Challenge
- Production of Ecological Soap
- Chemical Light: Unveiling the Shine of Science
“Chemistry is the key that helps us understand how everything around us works at the atomic and molecular level. Celebrating Chemist Day is also recognizing the fundamental role of this science in building a more sustainable, just, and innovative future,” emphasized Professor Vânia Lobo, responsible for the Chemistry space at CCPPA.
The technician Katiane Melo, who is also part of the team, highlighted the role of the Chemistry professional in everyday life. “They do not only work behind the scenes in laboratories. The chemist transforms knowledge into solutions, into progress, into quality of life. They are present from the shampoo we use to the fuel that powers vehicles,” she reinforced.
Origin of the date - Chemist Day was established in reference to the promulgation of Law No. 2,800, signed by President Juscelino Kubitschek on June 18, 1956, known as the Mater Law of Chemists, which regulated the profession and recognized its importance for the country's development.
Collective event brings together higher education institutions
In addition to the event at the Planetarium, the 2nd Chemist Week will begin on June 23 at the Center for Social Sciences and Education (CCSE) of Uepa, with activities in the Paulo Freire auditorium of campus I. The theme of this edition is “Technological Advances and Sustainability: Challenges and Perspectives in Chemistry.”
The event will be held collaboratively among academic centers of Uepa, the Federal Institute of Pará (IFPA), and the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) — Belém and Ananindeua campuses. The proposal is to strengthen connections between education, research, and society, discussing the paths of Chemistry in the face of environmental, social, and technological challenges, focusing on the Amazon.
The program includes round tables, workshops, presentations of works, and interactive activities. Registration remains open until the day of the event and can be done here. Participation as an audience member is free. Interested parties can also submit scientific works in the form of simple or expanded abstracts.
