Semas participates in the 3rd Meeting of the Hydrographic Basin Committee of the Marapanim River
The event discussed sustainable initiatives, challenges in the regularization of water resource use, and the institutional strengthening of the Committee
The State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) participated, on Tuesday (24), in the 3rd Ordinary General Assembly of the Hydrographic Basin Committee of the Marapanim River (CBHRM), held in a hybrid format, with the presence of representatives from the public power, civil society, academic institutions, and social movements.
The meeting took place in the auditorium of the Culture Secretariat of Castanhal with discussions on the regularization of water uses in the Basin and the promotion of sustainable solutions in the region, with the experience of the Agroecological Site Tolu.
The coordinator of Water Resources Planning at Semas, Verônica Bittencourt, gave a lecture on the overview of water use permits issued by the Secretariat in the Marapanim Hydrographic Basin.
“I informed about the importance of expanding the user registration as an essential step for water security, effective monitoring, and future charging for water use – a strategic instrument to enable resources that return in the form of investments for the Basin itself,” said Verônica Bittencourt.
The meeting reserved space for sharing follow-ups from the National Forum of Hydrographic Basin Committees (FNCBH), which took place in May in Campo Grande (RS).
The importance of Pará's active participation in the national collegiate was also highlighted, and there was an exchange of experiences and learnings. The Marapanim Committee participated in the discussions.
“Proposals such as the creation of the State Water Resources Fund, strategies for attracting national and international resources, strengthening the technical chambers of the committee, as well as the installation of the CBHRM headquarters in Castanhal, and the lecture by Dr. Luciana Athayde on the Agroecological Site Tolu and the Green Currency project were also discussed,” emphasizes the Manager of Support for Participatory Water Resources Management at Semas, Andreza Lima.
The closing of the workshop was marked by Semas' reaffirmation of its commitment to decentralizing environmental management, valuing technical and traditional knowledge, and strengthening basin committees as fundamental instruments for the preservation of water resources in Pará.
“I understand that aligning production, social economic development with sustainability is one of the great challenges of the CBHRM. We need to produce and disseminate in the 12 municipalities that make up the CBHRM projects and actions that can effectively produce these results,” states Paulo Nascimento from the Rural Producers Association of the Terra Boa Community.
The event was promoted by the Hydrographic Basin Committee of the Marapanim River (CBHRM), with the support of Semas.
