Setur promotes course in Parauapebas focused on regional cuisine
Training integrates the action plan of the State Secretariat of Tourism (Setur) focused on decentralizing tourism promotion in Pará
The State Secretariat of Tourism (Setur), in partnership with the National Rural Learning Service (Senar), promoted another professional qualification action in the municipality of Parauapebas, in southeastern Pará. Between June 23 and 27, the course "Food Handling with Emphasis on Regional Production" was held, aimed at a specific social demand from the Alle Batista Social and Cultural Development Institute (IDESCAB), an entity that works on the personal and professional strengthening of young people and women.
The training was part of Setur's action plan for the interiorization of public policies aimed at tourism, being yet another initiative that reinforces the collaborative work maintained for years with the Municipal Tourism Secretariat of Parauapebas (Semtur). The municipality already has a consolidated model of regional tourism and continuous actions for promotion and training.
Led by Senar instructor Lenise Santos, the course focused on teaching techniques for handling, preserving, and producing food using local ingredients, such as shrimp, Amazonian fruits, and regional vegetables. Participants learned to prepare dishes such as vatapá, cupuaçu pudding, shrimp-stuffed breads, and vegetable preserves with herbs.
The majority of the 20 graduating students were women, many of whom reside in peripheral communities or have direct involvement in the tourism production chain. The training provided these participants with practical and theoretical tools to enable them to start businesses and generate income, especially in the local gastronomic sector, which is boosted by the appreciation of regional products.
For the acting State Secretary of Tourism, Lucas Vieira, the action is an example of the social role of public tourism policy. "Investing in the qualification of people is strengthening tourism from the inside out. Each course like this is a seed of transformation that will generate opportunities, income, and empowerment, especially for women and young people who are the protagonists of this new era in Pará," said the manager.
The president of IDESCAB, Allesandra Batista, celebrated the partnership with Setur and Senar and highlighted the positive impact of the course. "It was a great satisfaction to host this course, which will be of great use to all of us. It met all the expectations of the audience, and the community served is immensely grateful. We are always open to receiving new courses and training like this, which contribute to the professional and personal growth of everyone."
Participant Caylane Laurindo, who had previously completed another Senar training, praised the new experience. "It's always good to enhance our knowledge. This Food Handling course certainly added even more to my experience, and I am sure that the techniques learned will help me a lot in the future," she said.
"The initiative reinforces the State Government's commitment to sustainable development and social inclusion through actions that bring tourism closer to communities and enhance regional knowledge," concludes Lucas Vieira.
