Shows by Pará artists excite over 16,000 people at Parque da Cidade
Arraial do Pavulagem, Dona Onete, and Zaynara were the attractions of the cultural opening program of the leisure complex, which will host Brazil's 1st Public Summer Camp
Last Friday night (27) was a celebration at Parque da Cidade, the newest reference in Belém for entertainment and environmental appreciation. To celebrate the opening of the sports and leisure area of the space, which will host Brazil's 1st Public Summer Camp, the Government of Pará promoted a special program that brought together over 16,000 people. The night featured performances by major names in Pará music, for an audience made up of people of all ages.
"It wouldn't be fair for us to make all the effort to build this facility and hand it over to the United Nations (UN) before delivering it to the people of Pará. That's why we decided to open the doors of Parque da Cidade today for the people of Pará. We will enjoy the Park throughout the month of July, and starting tomorrow (Saturday), the summer camp officially begins," said Governor Helder Barbalho during the event.

Historic initiative - The governor also honored former State Court of Accounts advisor, Nelson Chaves, who retired in 2021. In 1989, when he was a city councilor, Nelson Chaves advocated for the creation of an environmental park in the area of the old Aeroclube de Belém, where Parque da Cidade is now located. In 2019, the governor, the State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal, and the former advisor himself signed the launch of the public notice, starting the project.
"The opening of the Park had this cultural vibe marking the open arms of this public facility for our people. A meeting of generations, with Zaynara, Arraial do Pavulagem, and Dona Onete, and the population enjoying every little piece of our Park. We thank our governor Helder and our vice-governor Hana for the courage to dream of such a large and complete facility as this, coordinating with the federal government and making robust investments to deliver the best for our people," highlighted Secretary Ursula Vidal.
Music, dance, and colors - The first attraction of the night was Arraial do Pavulagem, which led the audience with songs and rhythms of popular culture. Next, Dona Onete took the stage with her characteristic "carimbó chamegado," expressing the strength of Amazonian poetry.
"This is fabulous, necessary, and urgent. The Arraial feels honored to have been invited. This is a special moment for us, a very intense period, and the show reflects this atmosphere of joy that we carry. I am very happy to participate," declared Ronaldo Silva, one of the leaders of Arraial do Pavulagem.
Closing the night, singer Zaynara showcased the talent of the new generation of Pará music in a pop show, full of contemporary references and regional identity.
"I am very happy with the invitation, and to sing at such an important event for the city, especially at this moment of preparation for the COP (world conference on climate change). It is very exciting to share the stage with artists like Dona Onete and Arraial do Pavulagem, who have a huge significance for our region. As an artist from the countryside, I feel very special to occupy this space and walk alongside those who paved the way," said Zaynara.

Family leisure – Freelancer Fabíola Favacho visited the Park accompanied by family members. "From what I've seen so far, the Park is wonderful! I've never seen anything like it. The first impression is that everything is perfect. I came with my family, my daughters, and my granddaughter, to watch Arraial do Pavulagem," said Fabíola.
The opening had the support of security inside and outside the Park. About 300 agents operated in the operation, coordinated by the State Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup).
Summer - The opening of the leisure area marks the beginning of activities for the Public Summer Camp, which will energize Parque da Cidade with free programming until July 31. The space will operate from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8 am to 10 pm, with entry allowed until 9:30 pm. On Mondays, the morning period will be dedicated to the maintenance of the complex, with visitation only starting at 4 pm.
The cultural programming will take place every Saturday and Sunday, in the late afternoon, with presentations of theater, music, dance, popular manifestations, and storytelling. The cultural agenda is coordinated by the State Secretary of Culture (Secult), while the sports activities are the responsibility of the State Secretary of Sports and Leisure (Seel).
