The State Secretariat for Environment, Climate and Sustainability of the State of Pará (Semas) conducted another technical visit to the Belém International Airport last week, as part of the monitoring work of the modernization works led by Norte da Amazônia Airports (NOA), the concessionaire responsible for managing the terminal since September 2023. The interventions are on schedule, with completion expected in the second half of this year, ensuring that the airport is prepared to welcome visitors to the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which Belém will host in November.

The inspection was led by the Deputy Secretary of Environmental Management and Regularity of Semas, Rodolpho Zahluth Bastos, who emphasized the strategic role of the secretariat in the technical monitoring of structural works that align with the environmental and climate agenda of the State. “The modernization of the airport is not just an infrastructure project, but a vector of transformation for the city and the State. We have been monitoring this project since its initial phase and remain attentive to its execution, which is essential for the logistics and international image of COP30,” he stated.

The Semas delegation was welcomed by the director of NOA, Artur Thiago Costa, who presented the latest advancements and the update of the airport's Masterplan, which foresees a series of improvements and new developments around the terminal. According to Artur Costa, in addition to the direct investments from the concessionaire, the project has attracted the attention of the private sector, which is expected to boost the socioeconomic development of Belém and the Metropolitan Region.

“We had already presented the plan to the secretary during its development, and now we showed the evolution of some projects. It was very relevant to have him here, not only to present the restructuring works and the investments of NOA, but also to highlight the new private ventures that are being attracted and that will contribute to local development,” he emphasized.
