Urban transport will be qualified for COP 30 with the support of drivers and public authorities
The first meeting with taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers, and app drivers marks the beginning of joint planning to improve service during the world conference
The Government of Pará and the City Hall of Belém started, on this Tuesday (15), a dialogue with urban transport professionals to enhance services and the quality of care provided to the population and visitors during the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30). The first meeting with representatives of taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers, and app drivers was held at the headquarters of the State Department of Transit (Detran) in Belém.

The general director of Detran, Renata Coelho, informed that this is the initial stage of a broader articulation aimed at aligning strategies to ensure quality service for passengers who will circulate in Belém during the conference. “This discussion is to combine everything that can add in terms of services and care for the COP audience, to provide quality service and value the fundamental role of the category, which will welcome the delegations and visitors of the conference,” said the manager.
Among the actions to be promoted by Detran is the standardization of uniforms and the offering of a training and certification course, addressing strategic topics such as the role of local transport, hospitality, communication with foreign visitors, points of interest - such as hotels, consulates, and support posts -, tourist itineraries, main events of COP 30, urban mobility, and road safety, as well as notions of ethics, professional image, and sustainability. The execution of these trainings will be the responsibility of Sebrae (Brazilian Service of Support to Micro and Small Enterprises), which will provide monitors for the activities.

The City Hall of Belém is also mobilized. According to the municipal secretary of Security, Public Order, and Mobility, Luciano Oliveira, the agency has already updated the registry of taxi drivers and will now organize the database of motorcycle taxi drivers and app drivers to support public policies. “With the data we collect, we will have a basis for everything the government and the city hall are considering in terms of investments,” he added.
Approval of the category - The initiative was well received by the class entities. Elke Silva, president of the Association of App Drivers of Pará (Amap), highlighted the importance of public support. “We have companies and drivers registered to operate at COP and, although we are training, this support from the government is essential for our improvement,” she evaluated.

For the president of the Union of Motorcycle Taxi Drivers and Autonomous Motorcycle Deliverers of the State of Pará (Sindmapa), COP 30 represents a concrete opportunity for income generation and professional recognition. “Our contribution is total. We want to improve working conditions and gain recognition. This legacy will be very important for all of us,” stated José de Ribamar Silva (known as Alemão).
According to the representative of the Taxi Drivers Cooperative of Doca, Oswaldo Neto, the dialogue with public authorities demonstrates welcome and reinforces the commitment to the sector. “The attention of public authorities to the segment makes everyone feel welcomed, knowing that they are not alone in this prior alignment,” assured Oswaldo Neto.
Also participating in the agenda were the Technical-Operational Director of Detran, Bento Gouveia; the Director of Transport of the Municipal Secretary of Security, Public Order, and Mobility (Segbel), Julivan Costa, and the manager of the Mobility axis for COP 30 of Sebrae, Alexandre Fernandes.
