With the aim of reinforcing institutional dialogue and strengthening the presence of public authority in the Environmental Protection Area (APA) Algodoal-Maiandeua, in the municipality of Maracanã, the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) held a joint meeting with the Military Police, the Fire Department, and representatives of the Association of Boatmen who make the crossing between the beaches of the APA. The initiative integrates the activities of Operation Summer 2025, aimed at environmental protection and the regulation of tourist use in the region.

The meeting focused on aligning strategies between the agencies and the association, aiming to ensure greater safety in the crossings, respond quickly to any emergencies, and ensure that visitors and residents are well received during the high season. According to the manager of the Northeast Administrative Region of Ideflor-Bio, Raimunda Araújo, this type of coordination is essential for making environmental protection actions more effective.

“We are here to reinforce that Ideflor-Bio is present and active, in dialogue with those who live and work in the APA. We know that each partner is essential to preserve this natural and cultural heritage,” she stated.

Actions - In addition to the meeting, the technical team of the Institute carried out a cleaning action at Praia da Princesa and nearby areas, collecting solid waste left by visitors. The mobilization involved members of the Northeast Administrative Region Management (GRNE) and resulted in the collection of a large amount of trash, which was organized and left in strategic points for later collection by the Municipality of Maracanã.

The environmental management technician of Ideflor-Bio, Adriana Gomes, highlighted the team's commitment to the conservation of the APA's ecosystems. “Even with a small group, we made a point of carrying out this cleaning because every action counts. The beach is a sensitive space, and keeping it clean is also a way to educate and raise awareness among those who frequent the place,” she said.

Awareness - Continuing the program, the team also visited the community of Fortalezinha, where they promoted an environmental education activity with local residents. Gifts such as eco-friendly bags and reusable cups were distributed, accompanied by guidance on good practices in serving tourists and the importance of environmental conservation.

The initiative will be expanded in the coming days with a new action on Fortalezinha beach, aimed at residents and vacationers. The goal is to encourage collective awareness about each person's role in protecting the APA, especially during the period of higher visitor flow. The APA Algodoal-Maiandeua is one of the most visited regions of the Pará coast and houses fragile ecosystems, such as mangroves, restingas, and dunes.
