State brings 'Don't Stay Silent' campaign to the beaches of Salinópolis and reinforces protection for women
Action by Semu, in partnership with Segup, Procon, and the Civil Police, guides establishment owners and the general public on how to prevent and combat violence against women
The State Secretariat for Women (Semu) carries out awareness actions to promote the "Don't Stay Silent" Protocol, a support tool for combating violence against women. The team visits public and private spaces with high foot traffic, providing information about rights, reporting channels, and support options for women. Last weekend, the mobilization took place in Salinópolis, a municipality in northeastern Pará, through a partnership with the State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) and Procon (Consumer Protection and Defense Prosecutor's Office).

The teams visited hotels, restaurants, and bars, and also guided beachgoers on the importance of society being attentive and knowing how to act in cases of violence. Posters about the protocol were displayed in these locations. The campaign aims to increase public awareness of the "Don't Stay Silent" Protocol and encourage establishments to provide a safe environment for women.

Safe environment - According to Kelly Castelo Branco, a technician from Semu, one of the goals of the action is to prepare establishment owners to act correctly in these situations. “Semu was present in Salinas with the aim of creating a safe and welcoming environment for women in bars, restaurants, and other establishments. This initiative seeks to raise awareness and train staff to identify and deal with situations of harassment, abuse, and sexual violence. Thus, ensuring that victims feel safe to report and receive the necessary support from establishments and the women's support network in the municipality,” explained the technician.
The State Secretary for Women, Paula Gomes, emphasized that the campaign during the summer season aims to reach a larger audience during one of the busiest times of the year. “The 'Don't Stay Silent' initiative was created to ensure that no woman feels alone when facing a situation of violence. It guides, welcomes, and mobilizes all of society. In Salinópolis, we brought this message to leisure spaces, showing that they should also be environments of protection,” informed Paula Gomes.

Cases of violence can be reported through the numbers 180 (Women's Assistance Center) and 190 (Military Police), or directly at partner establishments of the protocol.
Guidelines - The "Don't Stay Silent" Protocol is a state public policy aimed at combating violence against women in bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and similar establishments. It establishes guidelines for these spaces to know how to act in cases of harassment, violence, or vulnerable situations, welcoming the victim with respect and activating the protection network.

The initiative is coordinated by Semu, in partnership with the State School of Public Governance of Pará (EGPA) — responsible for the training platform —, with the support of the State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), the State Secretariat for Justice (Seju), through Procon Pará, and the Civil Police. The protocol is the result of an intersectoral construction that ensures an articulated and effective response from the State.
