The president of the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio), Nilson Pinto, received on Tuesday (15), the institutional visit of the executive director of the Intermunicipal Consortium for Sustainable Development of Transamazon and Xingu (CIDS-Xingu), Jefferson Figueiredo. During the meeting, possibilities for cooperation between the two institutions were discussed to promote integrated sustainability actions, with an emphasis on the maintenance and expansion of Agroforestry Systems (SAFs) in the municipalities of the region.

The proposal presented by Jefferson Figueiredo foresees the joint action of CIDS-Xingu and Ideflor-Bio in providing technical and institutional support to family farmers who develop agroforestry practices. The initiative seeks to combine agricultural production with environmental conservation, strengthening sustainable production chains and contributing to the recovery of degraded areas along the Transamazon and Xingu.

According to the president of Ideflor-Bio, the partnership is strategic to expand the Institute's presence in the region and enhance actions with positive social and environmental impact. “SAFs are an effective alternative to generate income in the countryside, preserve natural resources, and ensure food security. We are open to cooperating with CIDS-Xingu so that this agenda advances strongly in the consortia territories,” said Nilson Pinto.

Scope - CIDS-Xingu brings together 13 municipalities from the Transamazon and Xingu regions and aims to promote sustainable development through integrated actions, focusing on public policies, training, and innovation. With the support of Ideflor-Bio, agroforestry projects can gain scale and structure, benefiting hundreds of families and strengthening state goals to combat deforestation and promote the bioeconomy.

During the meeting, possible funding calls, technical training, and pilot projects that could be executed in partnership, with support from civil society organizations and international bodies, were also discussed. The goal is to consolidate a common agenda for sustainable development, respecting the productive vocations and environmental limits of each municipality.
