Graesp monitors roads and beaches with higher traffic in July
Actions developed by Operation Summer 2025, coordinated by Segup, have the support of two aircraft, which also fly over penal units.

Operation Summer 2025 includes patrolling and monitoring in the main locations of high pedestrian traffic, through the Public Security Air Group (Graesp), linked to the State Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup). Rounds are conducted on the roads and beaches, as well as at the entry and exit points of Belém, and rounds in penal units.
“Graesp agents operate in patrolling the highways from Belém to the municipality of Salinas, flying over the main beaches and highways, monitoring accident occurrences, such as traffic jams. This way, they can inform the responsible agencies more quickly about cases that require them to call in response teams. We have intensified aerial patrolling to support the crime-fighting activities carried out by agents operating on solid ground,” said the State Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado.
In Operation Summer, two aircraft, Esquilo-type helicopters, are being employed. One aircraft monitors the state highways that depart from Belém to the municipality of Castanhal and flies over penitentiaries, while the other patrols the main beaches in northeastern Pará.
Fixed base - In Salinópolis, Graesp's aircraft are stationed at a fixed support base, at the helipad of the municipality's Military Fire Department. From there, they head towards the city center and also cover the beaches, observing bathers and assisting in cases of drownings, vehicle stranding, and tidal movements, in order to prevent accidents and property losses.

“Our aircraft are prepared to assist the population in cases of accidents and drownings at sea. Our crew includes agents trained for rescues, equipped with fins and flotation devices. If necessary, we deploy lifeguards so they can rescue victims, preventing serious accidents on the beaches,” emphasized the aircraft commander, Lieutenant Colonel Leandro Tavares.
The pilot also highlighted that "the State has a sophisticated piece of equipment, the helicopter, which is an indispensable aircraft in Public Security, as it can land in restricted areas, in addition to the agility and speed that allows us to reach situations as quickly as possible. This ensures that the response to security actions is more effective, both in combating crime and in rescuing and saving people, which allows us to safeguard the lives of those enjoying the beaches, along with their families, and the tourists who come during this time of year to experience the beaches of the Northern region,” added Lieutenant Colonel Leandro Tavares.
