Lectures promoted by Ideflor-Bio in Salinópolis strengthen environmental education
Meetings with the community will be held until this Thursday (24), at the Gibi Saúde Ecobiblioteca, located at Ponta da Sofia
The Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) continues the cycle of lectures and environmental education activities, which are part of the Summer Operation 2025 program, in the municipality of Salinópolis, northeastern Pará. The meetings are held weekly, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, during the month of July, at the Gibi Saúde Ecobiblioteca, at Ponta da Sofia.

The initiative aims to raise awareness among residents, tourists, and summer visitors about the importance of conserving the coastal ecosystems of the region, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and with vast mangroves. The educational actions involve themes directly related to the local context, such as traditional fishing, protection of sea turtles, combating wildfires, and conservation of restingas and mangrove areas.
The lecture on Tuesday (22) was conducted by the Military Fire Brigade of Pará, focusing on the prevention and combat of wildfires and forest fires. On Wednesday (23), participants attended two discussion rounds: one about the tradition of artisanal fishing at Ponta da Sofia, with local fishermen, and another about the importance of protecting sea turtles, promoted by the Ecobiblioteca. The program will conclude on Thursday (24), with a lecture on the conservation of sensitive ecosystems, such as mangroves and restingas, conducted by Ideflor-Bio.

Awareness - According to the environmental analyst of the Institute, Márcia Segtowich, educational activities are fundamental to strengthen the relationship between communities and the environment. “Environmental education has the power to transform habits and generate a sense of belonging. Here, in Salinópolis, we are engaging with different audiences, so that each person understands their role in preserving coastal biodiversity,” she informed.
The director of Management and Monitoring of Conservation Units of Ideflor-Bio, Ellivelton Carvalho, also reinforced the importance of integrated action. “These actions demonstrate how networking between public institutions, traditional communities, and civil society strengthens environmental management. The knowledge shared in the lectures is a powerful tool for the conservation of ecosystems and the appreciation of sustainable practices,” he stated.

Actions - In addition to the lectures, there is the distribution of educational materials, activities with children and adolescents, and thematic exhibitions at the Ecobiblioteca. The actions are accompanied by Ideflor-Bio staff, environmental technicians, and institutional partners, such as the Fire Brigade, municipal secretariats, and community leaders.
The Summer Operation 2025 is coordinated by the Government of Pará and brings together various agencies with the aim of ensuring safety, territorial planning, and the well-being of the population during the period of highest tourist flow in the most frequented resorts.
