Fire Department reinforces prevention actions at Caripi beach in Barcarena

Caripi beach in Barcarena, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, is among the 50 locations that received reinforcement in prevention and inspection actions during Operation Summer 2025, coordinated by the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup).

The Military Fire Department of Pará is present at Caripi beach playing a fundamental role with military personnel providing pre-hospital care in cases of accidents with marine animals, first aid, as well as monitoring and readiness of lifeguards in boats along the beach and others on the sand.

Sergeant BM Carvalho

According to Sergeant BM Carvalho, who is managing the team at the Base Point of Caripi beach, prevention at the beaches is essential to prevent accidents from occurring.

“We are here operating with eight military personnel per service shift, one pair on the boat, one pair at the pier, another at the creek, and the rest here at the base point with a rescuer and manager. And what we are noticing here, on the last weekend of July, is that with the end of the school holidays in the metropolitan area, there has already been a reduction in the flow of people here, so this is benefiting the operational service of everyone. For us, there has been a good reduction in aquatic occurrences; what we have been responding to a lot are calls regarding missing children and some accidents with marine animals, but even that has decreased; there used to be many more. So in this way, it is much better. Since the arrival of people, we provide guidance and identification of children, and thus we have had a lot of tranquility during our prevention actions. We are also operating with all the necessary structure and all the necessary support from the state to operationalize our actions,” said Sergeant Carvalho.

The Fire Department team also made some recommendations for families to avoid risks at the beaches:

- Respect the area delimitations and the guidance of professionals;

- Stay submerged only up to the waist, which is the recommended safety limit. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption;

- Remember that parents are the main responsible for the supervision of children.

For self-employed Edna Cardoso, who is enjoying the last weekend of July with her family, the care of the security forces is very important for the family's safe enjoyment. “For us who bring children to the beach, the tips and care from the Fire Department are essential, as they help us to have the necessary attention, to identify our children, and in addition, there are police officers who stay on the beach to prevent people from committing thefts here. So we are very well and enjoying everything,” she said.
