It was an unforgettable moment for Wena Barbosa Oliveira. At 23 years old, she gave birth to Aurora, whose delivery was recorded in the history of mother and daughter through a technique known as placentography.

The procedure took place at the Regional Public Hospital of Castle of Dreams, located in the district of the same name, belonging to Altamira.

The nursing manager Camila Lira explained that, right after the birth, the nursing professionals separate the placenta from the mother, positioning it on a piece of paper. This contact generated an abstract drawing that was printed on the sheet and is usually very similar to a tree.

"It is a practice that has become popular and today reinforces a very important meaning between mother and baby. So moved, parents often make a frame with the material," explained Camila.

The mother was happy with the surprise. "I thought the initiative was beautiful. It represents the tree of life and I will keep it as a memory forever," said Wena.

The nursing manager added that humanization in childbirth seeks to make the birth experience more positive and respectful for the mother, the baby, and the family, focusing on the well-being and autonomy of the woman.

"Placentography, which can be a stamp of the placenta or other forms of record, is a practice that celebrates the bond between mother and baby and the uniqueness of pregnancy," stated Camila.

Wena was accompanied from prenatal care to postpartum at the Castle of Dreams hospital. She highlighted the welcoming atmosphere, the care of the nursing team, and the attention from the medical team.

"I felt very safe and welcomed all the time," said the mother, who thanked the team for their attention and dedication in the assistance.

In Castle of Dreams, most births occur at the General Public Hospital. Every month, the unit performs approximately 25 deliveries.

"In fact, the hospital, which is owned and maintained by the Government of the State of Pará, is the most important health unit in the district and the safe harbor for most of the population that needs and depends on the public health system," stated the general director Diego Carlis.

On July 17, the hospital celebrated five years of services provided to the local and regional community. In total, there were more than 307 thousand services, including 35,670 consultations, 3,804 surgeries, 176,965 exams, and 84,376 emergency and urgent care services.

Regional reference - With 34 beds, both operational and non-operational, the General Public Hospital of Castle of Dreams is a regional reference in low-complexity care.

The unit offers consultations, exams, surgeries, and follow-ups in seven medical specialties: General Surgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, and Internal Medicine.

Belonging to the Government of Pará, the hospital has been consolidating itself as a safe harbor for the local population, always focusing on social inclusion and ethical, humanized, and qualified care.
