The Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará - Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, awarded the 'Bravery Certificate' to more than 350 children between January and July 2025, in a humanization action that recognized the courage, resilience, and strength of these young patients as they faced challenging treatments and complex diagnoses.

Gabrielle Fernandes Nunes, 14 years old, a resident of Rondon do Pará, in the Rio Capim region, was one of the honorees. She underwent orthopedic surgery and, with a smile on her face, highlighted the essential support from the team. “I thank everyone for the support I received. This certificate will be a memory I will cherish forever,” she explained emotionally.

The Bravery Certificate is awarded whenever a child is discharged or after undergoing complex exams that require exceptional courage and patience. This initiative, promoted by the humanization service, has become a tradition, strengthening a culture of recognition, affection, and support for the kids and their families.

Otávio Souza, 3 years old, a resident of Breu Branco, in the Tucuruí Lake region, was also honored. Kailane Rodrigues de Souza, his mother, stated: “I deeply thank the team for the care and affection dedicated to my son. This certificate represents the recognition of his courage.”

Commitment to Humanization

The “Bravery Certificate” project, promoted by the Regional Hospital of Marabá, under the management of the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA) and the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), is one of the various humanization actions of the unit. The initiative aims to provide a welcoming environment for children, valuing the emotional and psychological aspect of the care journey.

Daiane Uzinsky, humanization analyst at the hospital, emphasized the importance of the project. "We aim to ensure that, in addition to treatment, children and their families feel welcomed, especially in difficult times. We recognize the courage of the little ones and also the dedication of the team in providing humanized care," she stated.

According to Daiane, the action adopts practices that place affection, active listening, and understanding at the center of care. "Humanizing is seeing the patient as a unique being, with their emotions, fears, and experiences. In the hospital, our mission is to create an environment where each person feels valued and supported,” concluded the professional.
