The Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity of the State of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) received, in Belém, a delegation from the municipality of Novo Progresso, located in the southwestern region of Pará. The visit aimed to discuss the future forest concession notice that will be launched by the end of this year for the Iriri State Forest (Flota). The moment was marked by open dialogue between municipal representatives and the agency's technical team, strengthening the collective construction of sustainable concession policy in Pará.

The delegation was composed of state deputy Aveilton Souza, the mayor of Novo Progresso, Gelson Dill, local councilors, and businesspeople. They were welcomed by the president of Ideflor-Bio, Nilson Pinto, the director of Public Forest Management, Ana Claudia Simoneti, and the manager of the Xingu Administrative Region, Marco Aurélio Oliveira. During the meeting, the visitors brought suggestions and demands from the region regarding the management model and the criteria set for the notice.

According to president Nilson Pinto, the meeting reinforces the Institute's commitment to active listening of the various actors involved in the concession process. "We are committed to building a robust notice that reflects the principles of sustainable development and meets the three fundamental pillars: environmental, social, and economic. The participation of the leaders from Novo Progresso is essential to ensure that the final instrument is aligned with the needs and potential of the region," he stated.

Potential - The Iriri Flota is a Sustainable Use Conservation Unit located in the southwestern region of Pará and has high potential for forest management, an activity that can boost the local economy without compromising environmental conservation. Public forest concessions aim to promote the rational use of natural resources, respecting the environment and directly benefiting local communities with job creation, income, and social inclusion.

For the director of DGFLOP, Ana Claudia Simoneti, this dialogue with municipal entities is indispensable. "The integration of the three pillars of sustainable development is what ensures that the concessions are truly efficient. The forest can indeed be economically exploited, as long as it occurs with responsibility, transparency, and respect for people and territory. We are listening to all involved to build a model that works for Pará and for Brazil," she emphasized.

Operationality - During the meeting, operational aspects of the concession process were also discussed, such as zoning of the area, criteria for technical evaluation, social guarantees, and environmental requirements. The Ideflor-Bio team reinforced that the notice will be widely disseminated and submitted to public consultation, aiming to ensure broad participation from civil society, the private sector, oversight bodies, and traditional communities.

Nilson Pinto also reaffirms the importance of participatory planning and territorial governance in the sustainable use of forest resources. "The dialogue with Novo Progresso adds to other institutional agendas planned until the launch of the notice, strengthening the commitment of the Government of Pará to economic development allied with biodiversity conservation and the appreciation of local populations," concluded the president of Ideflor-Bio.
