Children and adults had fun in the newest leisure space in the capital of Pará

On this August 9, International Day of Indigenous Peoples, the State Secretariat for Indigenous Peoples (Sepi) promoted a special moment of coexistence and leisure for indigenous children from the Metropolitan Region of Belém at Parque da Cidade, a space that will host programming for COP30 (world conference on climate change).

Secretary Puyr Tembé: 'ancestral presence is alive in Belém'

The action was carried out in partnership with the Indigenous Health District/Casa de Apoio à Saúde Indígena (Casai) of Icoaraci, which provides medical treatment to members of ethnic groups residing in the capital or who are displaced throughout the Metropolitan Region. The meeting provided a day of fun, integration, and cultural strengthening for families temporarily living outside their territories.

Children accompanied by their mothers and fathers enjoyed the water park and recreational spaces, reaffirming, according to the head of Sepi, Puyr Tembé, the importance of occupying and valuing these places. “By celebrating the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, we reaffirm that our ancestral presence is alive in Belém — even in urban spaces. Here, in this Park, we share culture, strengthen our identity, and ensure that our children grow connected to their roots. This is also our place,” she emphasized.

Rute Kayapó participated in the programming

Expressing her gratitude for the moment, Rute Kayapó said it was "very good for the children to be here. They play, see nature, learn, and are happy. Thank you to the government and Sepi for this day.”

Strengthened bonds - In addition to the leisure moment at the water park, the program included discussion circles and dynamics aimed at promoting social interaction among indigenous families, strengthening community ties and encouraging the exchange of experiences. The activities provided a welcoming space for dialogue, where adults and children shared knowledge, stories, and experiences, reinforcing the feeling of belonging and unity among participants.

The International Day of Indigenous Peoples, created by the United Nations (UN) to recognize and value the cultural diversity and rights of indigenous peoples, reinforces Pará's commitment to ensuring that these voices are heard and respected. With special programs, such as the one held at Parque da Cidade, the State reaffirms the promotion not only of public policies but also provides moments that strengthen the identity, integration, and well-being of indigenous communities.
