Hemopa Foundation promotes blood donation campaign in Uruará
Action promoted by the Regional Hemocenter of Santarém brought structure and technical team to the municipality, offering the local population the opportunity to donate.

The Regional Hemocenter of Santarém, linked to the Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation of Pará (Hemopa), held on Thursday (14) the third edition of the blood donation campaign in the municipality of Uruará, in the Xingu Integration Region, western Pará. The action is part of the decentralization project of the Hemopa Foundation, which aims to expand the population's access to hemotherapy services, strengthening the blood supply and ensuring support to the region's hospital units.
Throughout the day, volunteers attended the collection point to contribute to the solidarity act that helps save lives. The initiative was supported by the local government, health professionals, and institutional partners, enabling structure, logistics, and community mobilization.

For biomedical Fernanda Souza, coordinator of the Hemopa Transfusion Agency in Uruará, the campaign is anticipated throughout the year and mobilizes the entire municipality. “Our goal is to collect 160 bags. Participation is significant, especially from health professionals, who are well aware of the importance of donating. Since we are far from the hemocenters, this action is essential to ensure transfusions in cases of accidents, which are frequent in the region,” she explained.
Rubens Pinheiro, coordinator of Brucutu Jovem, a branch of the NGO Brucutu, which has been active in the municipality for over 25 years, highlighted community mobilization. “I have been a donor for eight years and encourage young people to practice solidarity from an early age. Donating blood is a simple and direct way to help those in need,” said the volunteer.

Commitment - A loyal donor in the municipality, Melquisedeque Pereira de Oliveira began his journey as a donor at 18 years old and maintains the habit of donating up to four times a year. “I started in Minas Gerais, and I have been to São Paulo, Espírito Santo, and Goiás, always donating. Today, I continue here in Uruará. Donating blood is a commitment I carry with me because I know it can save lives,” he emphasized.
The project brings technical teams and supplies to municipalities that do not have a hemocenter, bringing the service closer to those who need it most. With this, the Hemopa Foundation reinforces the importance of regular and voluntary donation as a way to maintain safe and continuous transfusion care.
