‘Sarau de Cordel’ at CIIR honors the Pará poet Claudio Cardoso
The event celebrated northeastern popular culture and paid tribute to the Pará cordelista, bringing together authors, users, and the community of the Rehabilitation Center
In celebration of the Day of Cordel Literature (August 1), the Integrated Center for Inclusion and Rehabilitation (CIIR), in Belém, through the Arts and Culture sector, held the “Sarau de Cordel” on the morning of this Thursday (14), marking the closing of the 8th edition of the CIIR Entrepreneurs Fair.
The event, held in the hall of block C, was attended by users, companions, collaborators, and guests from the Academy of Letters of Ananindeua (Alanin), bringing together great names from the cordel literature of Pará to celebrate the art and memory of the late cordelista Claudio Cardoso. He left an important cultural legacy and was part of the history of CIIR as a user and collaborator of the Inclusive Library's actions.
Participating in the sarau were the cordelistas Ubiraci Conceição, Jetro Fagundes, Apolo da Caratateua, and Helenice Silva, who enchanted the audience with verses that exalt popular tradition and northeastern identity. In addition to the performances, there was a sale of books and copies of cordel literature. At the end of the cultural event, a raffle of books authored by the present artists was also held.
For Denise Morais, supervisor of Arts and Culture at CIIR, the moment was more than a tribute. “It was a space for sharing, celebrating popular culture, and emotional memory. Claudio Cardoso not only wrote verses but helped to sow cordel literature in our state. Bringing together so many talents here is also a way to keep that flame alive.”
The president of Alanin, Rejani Aguiar, highlighted the connection of cordel with everyday life: “Music, poetry, cordel, all contain poetry. Cordel literature is just another poetic style, with a close, simple, yet true and rhymed speech. The Academy of Letters of Ananindeua was very honored to be invited to be at CIIR. It was a moment of cultural exchange that united passion, art, and a very special audience.”
The cordelista Apolo da Caratateua, one of the guests, emphasized the relevance of the meeting. He noted that “it was a joy to participate in this tribute to the poet Claudio Cardoso.”
“I have been here before at his invitation and always cherish those memories. Today, we reinforce the memory of this great friend and strengthen the promotion of cordel,” said the poet.
Among the audience, housewife Maria Lisley, 50, mother of a user undergoing allergy treatment at CIIR for three years, participated in a sarau for the first time. “I liked it a lot. We realize the importance of what they say and how it touches us. Even my daughter, who is small, can benefit from a moment like this. It’s good for the heart and the mind,” said the resident of Igarapé-Açu, in northeastern Pará.
