The 28th Pan-Amazonian Book and Multivoices Fair was opened on the morning of this Saturday (16), at the Hangar Convention Center of the Amazon, in Belém. Since the early hours of the day, the public eagerly awaited in line to learn about this year's program, which brings together literature, orality, arts, and cultural manifestations until next Friday (22), always with free entry.

The State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal, highlighted the democratic nature of the event.

“A day so important for culture, for literature, for orality, for memory has arrived. Our 28th Pan-Amazonian Book Fair opens its doors this Saturday, August 16, and until next Friday at 10 PM, we invite everyone to immerse themselves in the world of creativity, imagination, and cultural citizenship,” she stated.

The honorees of this edition are the writer Wanda Monteiro and Master Damasceno, whose trajectories and works will be celebrated throughout the program.

Tributes move the audience

While participating in the opening, writer Wanda Monteiro emphasized the emotion of seeing the reception of the visitors.

“When I arrived here and saw that crowd waiting to enter this world of books and arts, I was deeply moved and grateful to realize that our Pará is moving towards the democratization of spaces,” she declared.

The fair brings together publishers, distributors, bookstores, and second-hand bookstores, with titles aimed at different audiences and age groups.

Diverse cultural programming

The activities this Saturday begin at 3 PM, with a chat between writers Wanda Monteiro and Tânia Sarmento, accompanied by the artistic intervention Aquatempo, by Juraci Siqueira.

At 4:30 PM, the audience will be able to watch the monologue The Daughter of the River, performed by Wanda Monteiro, followed at 5:30 PM by the procession of the Búfalo-Bumbá, a cultural manifestation created by Master Damasceno.

The program continues at 6:30 PM with the screening of the documentary Master Damasceno: the trajectory of an Afromarajoara. Shortly after, at 7 PM, the debate with Guto Nunes and Agenor Sarraf will address topics such as art, resistance, and traditional knowledge.

Closing the first day, at 8 PM, Master Robledo and the group Nativos Marajoaras will present a show that values the rhythm, dance, and cultural expressions of Marajó.
