The Regional Public Hospital of Marajó (HRPM), in Breves, received on the 13th and 14th of this month, members of the project "Health in Our Hands", part of the Institutional Development Support Program of the Unified Health System (Proadi-SUS), which strengthens good practices for preventing infections related to health care, focusing on the prevention of bloodstream infections associated with the use of central venous catheters, urinary tract infections associated with urinary catheters, and pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation.

Results – According to the nurse responsible for the Hospital Infection Control Service at the Regional Hospital of Marajó, Higor Tostes, the team, composed of professionals from the German Hospital Oswaldo Cruz in São Paulo, evaluated the progress of the project implemented in the Adult ICU of HRPM and presented the results obtained in the first year, highlighting the reduction of bloodstream infection cases in the first half of 2025. The next objectives and goals for the second half of 2025 and for 2026 were also defined.

“In 2024, the bloodstream infection density recorded in the Adult ICU was 2.2 cases per thousand patients. In 2025, this rate dropped to zero, which means that during the evaluated period, there were no records of this type of infection among the patients,” explained the professional.

Expansion - During the visit, the expansion of the project, still in its initial phase, to the Surgical Center was also presented, focusing on controlling and reducing infections in clean surgeries.

Approval - For Raimundo de Oliveira, 58 years old, who accompanies his father during hospitalization, the experience in the hospital has been extremely positive. “The care from the professionals is excellent. I feel completely safe, as they convey confidence and demonstrate great competence. This hospital is a true blessing for the population,” said the farmer.
