Pará promotes unprecedented action with international specialists for free surgeries in children with hand deformities
The mobilization began at CIIR with humanized reception and multiprofessional assessment; procedures will be performed at Abelardo Santos Hospital on August 17 and 18

The Government of Pará, through the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), began this Saturday (16) an unprecedented action that brings together national and international specialists for free corrective surgeries for hand deformities in children. The mobilization started at the Integrated Center for Inclusion and Rehabilitation (CIIR) in Belém, with a day of humanized reception and multiprofessional assessments, preparing patients and their families for the procedures that will be performed at the Abelardo Santos Regional Hospital (HRAS) on August 17 and 18.
Reception Journey
On the first day of the program, 18 families participated in playful and affectionate activities, which included a collective breakfast, games with giant soap bubbles, and a themed photo space. The initiative aimed to provide comfort and confidence to the children, creating positive memories before the surgical process.

Next, the children underwent clinical screening, social assessment, and consultations with pediatricians and orthopedists at the Integrated Multidisciplinary Care Station, ensuring safety and comprehensive follow-up.
Partnerships and Social Impact - For the executive director of CIIR, Rejane Xavier, the action reinforces the role of joint work between different institutions.
“More than a surgical initiative, this is a humanitarian gesture, a collective act of care and hope. By uniting institutions, we bring together not only technical knowledge but also sensitivity and commitment to transforming lives,” she emphasized, thanking the support of the State Government through Sespa.

The technical director of Sespa, Carla Figueiredo, highlighted that the mobilization is a milestone for the state health network.
“We united institutions and specialists from different regions and countries to provide excellent and sensitive care to children who were waiting for this opportunity. This joint work reflects the State Government's commitment to a resolutive and humanized public health,” she stated.
International Specialists
The program includes specialists from the Brazilian Society of Hand Surgery (SBCM) and international guests from the United States, Argentina, and Mexico. “The main objective is to fulfill recovery dreams, not only for the child but also for the family. To give hope to completely change lives,” said Rui Sérgio Monteiro de Barros, president of SBCM and technical coordinator of the action.

Families' Emotion
Among the beneficiaries is little Yanis Simão, three years old, accompanied by her mother, Ladiana Santos, who came from the municipality of Pacajá in southeastern Pará.
“The participation here has been wonderful. Today I am fulfilling the dream of any mother, which is to see my daughter have good development in the future and the possibility of a full life,” she said emotionally.

Surgeries and Legacy - The surgeries will take place this Sunday and Monday (17 and 18) at HRAS, in five simultaneous surgical rooms. The expectation is to restore mobility, improve self-esteem, and expand opportunities for school and professional inclusion for the children served.
The initiative also precedes the 45th Brazilian Congress of Hand Surgery and reinforces a care model that combines technical excellence, network work, and respect for the uniqueness of each patient.
Reference in Inclusion
CIIR is a reference in Pará for medium and high complexity care for People with Disabilities (PcD) visual, physical, auditory, and intellectual. Access to services occurs through referrals from health units, via the Municipal Regulation Center and the State Regulation System (SER).
