A delegation from the Chamber of Deputies is in Belém to closely monitor the progress of the main works for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in the capital of Pará in November.

On this Monday (18), the parliamentarians visited Porto Futuro II, Parque da Cidade, Hangar, Espaço COP, and Vila COP, in addition to participating in a lunch with Governor Helder Barbalho.

The agenda was organized by Deputy Elcione Barbalho (MDB/PA), president of the Environment and Sustainable Development Commission (CMADS). Also participating were deputies Duda Salabert (PDT/MG), president of SUBCOP30; Iza Arruda (MDB/PE); and Bandeira de Mello (PSB/RJ).

During the visit, Deputy Elcione Barbalho emphasized the permanent nature of the investments. “Parque da Cidade is a gift that will remain for the people of Pará. Besides being the stage for COP30, it will be a space for leisure, culture, and sports for families, generating jobs and strengthening local tourism,” she said.

For Deputy Duda Salabert, Belém has the necessary conditions to host the largest climate event on the planet. “I participated in the COPs in Dubai and Baku, and I can affirm that Belém is more than ready to host COP30. We saw that the city is structuring itself in an exemplary way to welcome the world,” she highlighted. She also recalled being the author of the bill that aims to symbolically make Belém the capital of Brazil during COP30.

In the meeting with Governor Helder Barbalho, the parliamentarians discussed COP30 as an international showcase for the Amazon and an opportunity to show the world the reconciliation between development and environmental preservation.

With 84 days to go until the conference, the delegation's visit reinforces the strategic role of Belém and Pará in the global climate debate and ensures that the benefits of the works and investments remain as a legacy for the local population.
