The Civil Police of the State of Pará, through the Urban Section of Guamá, carried out an operation on Tuesday (19) that resulted in the arrest of a man for association for criminal organization and the seizure of five clandestine surveillance cameras installed at strategic points in the Guamá neighborhood, in Belém.

The action was supported by the Police Intelligence Center (NIP), which assisted in locating the devices and identifying the individuals involved in the criminal monitoring scheme. According to Delegate Márcio Cavalcante, head of the Urban Section of Guamá, the equipment was linked to a drug dealer identified as one of the leaders of a criminal faction, currently wanted and hiding in Rio de Janeiro.

“The individual arrested this afternoon was subordinate to this drug dealer. The cameras were installed by his order with the aim of monitoring residents and surveilling the actions of security forces,” stated the delegate.

Cameras monitored police actions and residents' routines

Three of the cameras were installed on a power pole, at the Sururina passage with the Ezeriel passage and with the Liberato de Castro alley. Two others were found in businesses and properties in the area: one on top of a snack bar, at the Sururina passage with the Alegre passage, and another at the Alegre passage with the Barão de Igarapé Miri avenue — all near the residence of the arrested suspect.

According to Delegate Daniel Castro, head of the Metropolitan Police Directorate (DPM), the devices were intended to alert about the approach of police vehicles and officers in drug trafficking areas. “It was possible to verify that even the actions of our agents were being monitored. After the seizure, the equipment was sent for technical examination,” he highlighted.

Flagrant arrest and impact on the faction's operations

The man was arrested in the act for association for criminal organization, as provided for in Article 2 of Law No. 12.850/2013. He was taken to the police station, underwent legal procedures, and remains at the disposal of Justice.

The operation represents a step forward in the fight against organized crime in the capital of Pará. “The removal of these devices and the arrest of the individual caused a significant impact on the structure of the faction operating in the area, dismantling one of its main surveillance mechanisms and increasing the safety of the community,” concluded Delegate Márcio Cavalcante.
