Pro-Woman Program Pará provides support to over 9,000 women
Created three years ago, the program works in the protection, qualified repression, and guidance for women in situations of domestic violence
“I have been assisted by the Pro-Woman program since I made a call to Ciop and have never suffered the abuses I experienced with my ex-partner again. Today I have a protective measure and support to overcome this trauma,” reports E., one of the 9,300 women assisted by the Pro-Woman Program Pará.
The program of the State Government, coordinated by the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), was created three years ago and works in the protection, qualified repression, and guidance for women in situations of domestic violence. The actions developed by Pro-Woman are part of the Government's public policies to combat violence and crimes committed against women in the Pará territory.
“We work very specifically in the program, especially preparing our agents and servers so that they can support women who go through this type of violence, so that they can not only trust but also believe in our work to break this cycle of violence. Today we have over 9,000 women assisted in the program, and our idea is to further expand the field of action to all municipalities in Pará,” highlighted the State Secretary of Security, Ualame Machado.
Assistance and support - In three years, Pro-Woman Pará has already registered 14,000 general attendances aimed at cases of violence. During this period, 9,300 women were assisted with support, registration, and referral for protective measures. The program also promoted the training of 1,700 security agents and servers who work in the support network for women victims.
Only in 2025, from January to July, Pro-Woman Pará conducted over 3,000 attendances. The services are provided in 23 municipalities of the State and in the Mosqueiro District and involve the participation of the Military and Civil police, Ciop (Integrated Operations Center) servers, and municipal guards, who work in the protection of women in situations of domestic violence.
“Pro-Woman Pará is more than a program; it is a symbol of the State's struggle for a future free of violence against women. The program reaffirms the State's commitment to continue investing and improving actions aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of women in Pará,” stated the head of Segup.
Initiative and pioneering - Initially launched in the Metropolitan Region of Belém on March 8, 2022, in honor of International Women's Day, Pro-Woman Pará has been extended to 24 other locations in the State.
The Program operates through emergency calls, answered by the 190 channel of the Integrated Operations Center (Ciop), linked to Segup. When the occurrence is identified as a “call for help” from the victim or a family member or neighbor, the service teams immediately activate a specialized and qualified team from the pink vehicle, the program's symbol, to respond to the occurrence. The measure aims for agile and humanized assistance and the reduction of any violence committed against women.
Today, Pro-Woman has 39 pink vehicles, marked and exclusive for the assistance of women victims of violence. The Program currently operates in the municipalities of Abaetetuba, Ananindeua, Altamira, Barcarena, Belém, in the Mosqueiro District, Bragança, Breves, Castanhal, Cametá, Dom Eliseu, Marituba, Marabá, Paragominas, Portel, Redenção, Rondon do Pará, Salinópolis, Santarém, Soure, São Miguel do Guamá, Tailândia, Tucuruí, and Xinguara.
