Semas highlights the role of producers in sustainable solutions during event in São Paulo
The head of Semas emphasized the importance of placing rural producers at the center of solutions for a more sustainable economy

The Secretary of Environment, Climate and Sustainability of Pará, Raul Protázio Romão, participated on Wednesday (20) in ATERRA - Imaflora 30 years, held on August 20 and 21, at Sesc Santo Amaro, in São Paulo. The meeting brought together experts, rural producers, traditional communities, researchers, entrepreneurs, and public managers to discuss paths that reconcile economic development and environmental conservation. During his participation, the secretary reinforced the importance of placing rural producers at the center of solutions for a more sustainable economy.
“I strongly believe in demand-driven solutions. The producer must be at the center of building the solution, and the solution goes through them. So, we need this coalition, and Imaflora has been a fantastic actor in this process, the industry has helped, and if there is a capital that is free, it is the capital of mobilization and engagement, and we count on you to mobilize more and more,” said Raul Protázio Romão.
Among the initiatives led by the Government of Pará to engage producers, the Sustainable Livestock Program stands out as a pioneering strategy to encourage low-emission practices and the appreciation of responsible production chains. The program offers technical assistance, promotes traceability, and encourages compliance with socio-environmental criteria, ensuring that the meat produced in the State meets international market requirements and deforestation reduction targets.
The program has been transforming Pará's livestock into an example of how it is possible to reconcile productivity and conservation. In addition to expanding environmental regularization, the project also strengthens the local economy by opening new markets and stimulating the adoption of sustainable technologies that increase the efficiency of the activity without expanding pasture area.

About the event - ATERRA marked the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the Institute of Forest and Agricultural Management and Certification (Imaflora), a civil society organization that is a reference in sustainability actions, forest certification, and responsible agriculture. The event featured round tables, talks, exhibitions, and shows, promoting the exchange of experiences among different sectors of society on topics such as climate transition, sustainable agriculture, and the bioeconomy of socio-biodiversity.
For the secretary, spaces like ATERRA reinforce the role of Amazonian states, such as Pará, in building concrete solutions against the climate crisis and in favor of new development models that value producers and local communities.
