“Is there anything better than closing this wonderful event with books bought and lots of music? Everything is beautiful, as always,” congratulated Geovana Souza, 36 years old. Like the businesswoman, thousands of people attended the last day of the 28th Pan-Amazonian Book and Multivoices Fair this Friday (22), which concluded with the performance of the Quentes da Madrugada group.

The show took place at the Multivoices Arena, at Hangar – Amazon Convention and Fair Center, in Belém, which was packed. “For me, it is very gratifying to be able to participate in another edition of the Book Fair alongside my family. This is certainly one of the most anticipated events for us, as it brings together knowledge, culture, and awakens us to new learnings,” added Geovana.

The student Bruno Gonçalves, 25 years old, was one of the first to arrive at the show, which started at 8 PM, and commented: “All the programs were wonderful. I think the feeling now is one of sadness because it’s over and anxiety for the next edition next year,” he said.

For the teacher Amanda Cavalcante, 36 years old, each edition of the fair surpasses the previous one: “I dare say that each year the Book Fair is better than the last. This year, every detail was unique, from the copies available for sale to the themes of the chats and shows, like that of the Quentes da Madrugada group. Now it’s time to enjoy the last moments, because we are certainly already missing everything.”

Valuation - The Pan-Amazonian Book and Multivoices Fair encourages access to culture and values Pará artists, such as the Quentes da Madrugada group from the municipality of Santarém, in northeastern Pará. Led by masters Ticó, Candinho, and Sabá, the group is known for the artistic excellence of its repertoire, the harmony of musicians and singers, and for producing their own instruments.

Formed exclusively by farmers, fishermen, and crab catchers from the region, the group uses percussion instruments produced artisanally. Among them are the curimbós, carved from tree trunks and covered with animal skin; the rufo, a small marking drum; the maracás, made from cuieiras; and the reque-reque, made from bamboo, among others.

Fernando Correia is at the forefront of the brotherhood to which Quentes da Madrugada belongs. “I am very happy and moved to be here, at this event that is a reference in Pará and Brazil. Bringing Quentes da Madrugada, a legendary group and a reference of Carimbó, which started the fight for the recognition of the genre as heritage, is for me an immense honor. Here are the legends of Carimbó in Pará. Today is a day to celebrate, dance, and value our culture. This is our commitment to close the fair with a flourish,” he concluded.
