Metropolitan Hospital presents results from the Hyperbaric Medicine Center
Event held on Combu Island celebrated one year of the Hyperbaric Medicine Center, which has already performed over 13,000 sessions and is transforming lives

The Metropolitan Emergency Hospital (HMUE), located in Ananindeua, held a meeting of managers to present the results obtained with the Hyperbaric Medicine Center of the unit. The facility has already performed over 13,000 sessions and is accelerating the treatment of hospitalized patients with trauma and complex wounds.
Held last Saturday, the 23rd, the event brought together leaders from the unit, which is part of the Public Health Network of Pará, at Porto Combu, on Combu Island, in the region of the Islands in the capital of Pará, Belém.
According to the executive director of HMUE, Marcelo Azevedo, the results demonstrate the direct positive impact of investment in technology and innovation in health, in partnership with the State Health Department of Pará (Sespa).

“The Hyperbaric Medicine Center is a milestone for the Metropolitan Hospital, ensuring greater resolution, reduction of complications, and significant improvement in the quality of life of patients. Reaching over 13,000 sessions in just one year proves the importance and effectiveness of the service provided by Sespa,” he emphasized.
Pioneering in public health - Hyperbaric therapy, which consists of inhaling pure oxygen in pressurized chambers, is a fundamental resource in the treatment of complex wounds, crush injuries, poisonings, burns, among other situations that require differentiated support. The Metropolitan is the first public unit to offer assistance through the Unified Health System (SUS).
The physician and technical director of the National Institute for Social and Human Development (INDSH), José Branco, presented the benefits of the therapy applied to patients hospitalized at HMUE. “Hyperbaric medicine has saved limbs, accelerated healing, and prevented serious complications. It is a powerful therapeutic tool of the hospital, transforming lives and placing the Metropolitan on par with other leading units worldwide,” he explained.

The northern operational director of INDSH, José Neto, emphasized the relevance of integrated work. “This result is only possible thanks to the commitment of the teams and the management model that values efficiency and patient-centered care. HMUE reaffirms, with this service, its role as a health reference for the entire region,” he stated.

The general program included the lecture “Qmentum Certification,” given by the quality manager of HMUE, Jéssica Pinho; the presentation of the “Hyperbaric Concept,” conducted by physician José Branco, and finally, the presentation of the Apoema Institute.
The event also featured a performance by the “Ribeirinha Orchestra,” composed of children residing on Combu Island.
