An inspection action by the Candiru River Base, linked to the State Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), resulted in the arrest of two men during an approach to the vessel "Golfinho do Norte" on the morning of this Wednesday (27), in the strait of the Amazon River, in Óbidos, in western Pará. One of the suspects had an outstanding arrest warrant for sexual assault against a vulnerable person, and the other was carrying a firearm and over R$ 11 thousand in cash.

The vessel was traveling from Manaus (AM) to Monte Alegre (PA) when it was intercepted by the Candiru River Base team. During the inspection of cargo and passengers, the agents found a .38 caliber revolver with its serial number removed and R$ 11,862.00 in cash with one of the men. While checking the passengers' documents, the police identified the second suspect, who had an outstanding arrest warrant.

Monitoring the river network

According to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, the operation is a reflection of the continuous river surveillance work carried out at strategic points in the state.

“The river bases installed in strategic locations of our river network have resulted in very positive actions. Through the continuous operations carried out by our security agents, we are managing to intercept vessels that are illegally transporting drugs or drivers who have pending issues with the Justice, as evidenced by the arrests made today,” highlighted the head of Segup.

The inspection is part of the integrated work among various security forces that operate in the policing of the rivers of Pará through the Candiru River Base, including the River Grouping, Fire Department, Military Police, Civil Police, and Federal Revenue.

After the approach, the two men were taken, along with the seized weapon and money, for legal procedures under the responsibility of the Civil Police team that operates at the Candiru River Base, and they remain at the disposal of Justice.
