Literary Fair of Socioeducation promotes reading and writing as instruments of social transformation
Young people from Fasepa, in Belém, participated in the VI edition of the event with the production of short stories and meetings with Pará authors
The Pará Socioeducational Service Foundation (Fasepa), in partnership with the State Department of Education (Seduc), is promoting the VI Literary Fair of Socioeducation from August 27 to 29 at the Socioeducational Service Unit (UASE 1) in Belém. With the theme "The challenge of reading practice: The production of short stories in different neighborhoods of Belém," the initiative reinforces the importance of reading and writing as tools for the social reintegration of adolescents undergoing socioeducational measures.
The fair is the result of a pedagogical project carried out throughout July and August with the socioeducational participants of the unit, aimed at stimulating reading formation, creativity, and expression based on the individual experiences of the participants. The action is coordinated by teachers from the Antônio Carlos Gomes da Costa State School of Elementary and Secondary Education, linked to Seduc, in collaboration with the Fasepa team.
Reading as a path to freedom and authorship
During the preparation activities for the fair, the adolescents participated in reading circles with the work "Movimento Rápido dos Olhos" by Pará author Fabrício Ferreira, who is honored in this edition. The collective reading served as a basis for the production of original short stories, which are being presented throughout the event.
"This moment offers young people the opportunity to awaken to reading, art, and creativity, fundamental elements in the socioeducational process and in strengthening new life perspectives," stated Priscila Barroso, manager of UASE 1.
The program included artistic activities, poetry workshops, and discussion circles with writers and poets from the region. One of the memorable moments was the opening of the fair, led by master in Education and Human Rights, Julião Cristo, who interacted with the young people through literary characters and shared reading experiences.
"This fair is an excellent action, as it allows adolescents to see literature as a form of personal transformation and a powerful tool in the socioeducational process," highlighted Julião.
Writing as a tool for listening and identity
Education specialist, writer, and poet Suellen Sarmento was also present at the fair, promoting a chat with the socioeducational participants. She highlighted the power of reading as an instrument of freedom and identity building.
"Reading allows a person to leave the condition in which they were placed, it gives voice, liberates, and opens paths. These young people can be the authors of their own stories and make a difference," she stated.
Another special moment was the participation of artist, composer, and children's book writer Heliana Barriga, who enchanted the audience with storytelling, musical performances, and dramatizations of poems, promoting a true immersion in art and literature.
The program involved adolescents, families, teachers, and Fasepa staff, promoting an environment of cultural exchange, affection, and appreciation of youth protagonism. During the event, book donations were made for the reading space of the unit, and the invited authors expressed interest in continuing to contribute to educational actions in the location.
Meeting with the honored author
The fair will conclude this Friday (29), with a special participation of the honored author Fabrício Ferreira, who will be at the unit to talk with the adolescents, hear their impressions about his work, and answer questions.
"I found it very cool to get to know the book by author Fabrício Ferreira. I have several doubts and curiosities about the story, and it will be very good to be able to talk to him. I also wanted to thank the teachers and the Fasepa staff for this opportunity they are giving us," said a 15-year-old adolescent who actively participated in the project.
The VI Literary Fair of Socioeducation reaffirms the State Government's commitment to the right to education and culture, even in contexts of deprivation of liberty, promoting spaces for listening, creation, and transformation.
