The State Secretariat for Agricultural Development and Fisheries (Sedap) and the Brazilian Association for the Recycling of Electronic Waste (Abree), in partnership with the Municipal Secretary of Education of Belém (Semec), participated in an action aimed at raising awareness among the population about the importance of properly disposing of unused electronic materials, as well as ensuring their proper disposal. The collection took place this Saturday (30) at Praça da República.

The campaign started with a collection competition in five municipal schools in Belém. This Saturday, in a drive-thru with participation from companies in the sector and local communities, cell phones, headphones, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, televisions, hair dryers, mixers, stoves, microwaves, tools, computer equipment, radios, video games, and consoles, among other items, were received.

Specific disposal - Agronomist engineer Márcia Tagore, representing Sedap, said that the goal was to meet the demand of Abree, an association that works with electronic waste, by conducting an action involving schools to raise awareness among students and society in general about the importance of disposing of electronic waste. "We understand that this campaign helps to raise awareness that these products have contaminants and need specific disposal, just like pesticides. This is already an action we are developing directly. Most electronic waste has residues that end up harming the environment. We believe this was a very positive action, not only because of the partnership but because we understand that the education process is part of our routine, not only as a State Secretariat but as citizens," explained Márcia Tagore.

One of the participants in the action, João Gabriel, said that "this initiative is very important, both for the environment and for the protection of the people who collect the trash, because products like these can sometimes be toxic."
