Public health units in Pará will promote the III Symposium on Quality and Patient Safety
Registrations are open for the event, which will take place on September 16 and 17, in commemoration of World Patient Safety Day
Ensuring quality and safety in care is a priority in the public health units of the Government of Pará, managed by the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). In commemoration of World Patient Safety Day, celebrated by the World Health Organization (WHO) on September 17, registrations are open for the III Symposium on Quality and Patient Safety, which will be held on the upcoming days 16 and 17 (Tuesday and Wednesday), in an online format.

The event will bring together professionals from all units managed by ISSAA – State Public Hospital Galileu (HPEG), in Belém; Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará (HRSP), in Marabá; Metropolitan Polyclinic (in Belém), Polyclinic of Marabá, and Polyclinic of Tucuruí Lake – reinforcing team integration and commitment to safe and humanized care.

Scientific Production - One of the highlights this year is the presentation of 16 works developed by professionals from the units, distributed across four thematic axes, reflecting the challenges and advances in the health field. There will be five hours of presentations, with 15 minutes dedicated to each work.
The productions encompass initiatives in digital transformation and innovation in service of life, with projects that modernize hospital processes; operational efficiency and safety in surgical assistance, aimed at optimizing flows and patient journeys; clinical-assistance processes with value and safety, which gather strategies for prevention, humanization, and qualification of care, and environment, territory, and health: safety beyond the walls, with proposals that connect traditional knowledge and sustainability in health.
The event will discuss improvements and present practical proposals that have direct impacts on the assistance provided to users of the Unified Health System (SUS). "We count on the commitment of each team – including our own collaborators, third parties, and providers – to actively participate in the event and contribute with experiences and learning," emphasizes Pamela Motta, from the ISSAA coordination.

Sustainability - The theme of the event, "Patient Safety and Sustainability: Responsible Care from the Start," integrates the WHO's global proposal for 2025, focused on patient safety from the initial care journey, aligning sustainable practices with public health.
"The Symposium is a strategic opportunity for us to integrate best practices across all ISSAA units, strengthening the culture of patient safety. The goal is for each participant to bring experiences, learnings, and proposals that contribute to the continuous improvement of the assistance provided. Safety and sustainability go hand in hand, and our mission is to ensure that care is responsible from the beginning of the patient's journey," reinforces Paula Narjara, corporate manager of Quality and Patient Safety at ISSAA.

Content - The Symposium's program will begin on the 16th, with an official opening followed by a keynote lecture on the integration between patient safety and sustainability in health. Throughout the morning, topics such as safe pharmaceutical assistance and risk management in public hospitals will be discussed. In the afternoon, the agenda will include the presentation of excellence projects, highlighting initiatives aimed at safe patient identification, efficiency in surgical processes, prevention of complications in critical procedures, and best practices in the ICU.
On the second day (17), the event will continue with discussions on waste management in health institutions, addressing strategies and benefits for public health. The program will also include the presentation of works in the "Seeds of Excellence" category, with projects that bring innovative solutions for tracking hospital purchases, systematizing care, preventing infections, and more agile care flows.

Appreciation - Investing in quality and patient safety means reinforcing efficiency, trust, and humanization in SUS. Rodrigo Moreira, Administrative Director of ISSAA, explains that the Symposium allows not only sharing excellence projects but also discussing challenges and practical solutions that directly impact the lives of those who depend on the services. "We count on the engagement of all teams to strengthen the integration of the units, promote network learning, and reaffirm our institutional commitment to excellent care," emphasized the manager.
