Emergency Room Dr. Roberto Macedo invests in the continuous improvement of assistance to the population
Hospital in Belém promotes health education actions for professionals

Continuous improvement of service quality, ensuring safety, humanization of care, strengthening teamwork, with daily discussions and the exchange of experiences among professionals. These are some results generated by the ongoing education of professionals at the Emergency Room Dr. Roberto Macedo (PSRM) in Belém, in the daily assistance to the population.
The management of PSRM invests in the education of professionals, both in-person and remotely, through videoconferences and a digital platform available to professionals, who can choose topics according to their needs, aiming to provide safe and humanized health services, strengthening collaboration and team cohesion.

Natália Sena Faria, a resident of the Sacramenta neighborhood, accompanies her daughter undergoing treatment for pneumonia and noticed the rotation of teams between care and training offered at the health unit. “I have witnessed several times the professionals going back and forth from training. I really like the care from everyone; my daughter is being very well assisted. The technicians, the head nurse, the doctor, the nutritionist, the whole team. Everyone is well-informed, knows how to behave, knows how to talk to the parents in a welcoming way, and now I know that all of this is because they are trained,” said the companion.
“Investing in ongoing education ensures that everyone works in alignment for the well-being of the patient, guaranteeing a safer, more efficient, humanized health service that is aligned with the latest in science,” emphasizes the supervisor of the Permanent Education Center (NEP), nurse Ádria Vanessa da Silva.

“Fundamental for the quality of assistance in health, being a continuous process of learning and professional development, ongoing education integrates theory and practice, focusing on solving real everyday problems and the continuous improvement of services, providing continuous improvements directly to the assistance offered to users through constant knowledge updates,” she reinforces.
Fabíola Liane de Oliveira, a nurse in the Adult Emergency Care (PA), points out that the improvement in assistance also reflects in humanized reception. “I feel more and more qualified, ready, you know? Really prepared to assist our patients, with more quality and more welcoming to everyone. Continuing education is extremely important for us professionals who are on the front line.”

With an active Permanent Education Center (NEP), only in the year 2025, from January to August 31, 280 topics were addressed at PSRM, through the Annual Training Plan (PAT) and extra training, which occur when points for improvement are identified in the daily health assistance and also in areas of indirect assistance, in addition to the training available on the digital platform, reaching about 1200 professionals.
Among the in-person courses, only in August, over 100 professionals were trained in “Basic and Advanced Life Support” in two days, essential for urgent and emergency care. This year, until August 31, 80,360 people were assisted by the multiprofessional team at the adult and pediatric emergency receptions.

The initiative of the PSRM management to train and qualify professionals is fundamentally based on the National Policy for Permanent Education in Health (PNEPS), established in 2004, which brought significant changes to training and work in health throughout the national territory.
“Technical and scientific improvement of the team, standardization of care protocols, development of behavioral competencies, reduction of risks and adverse events, continuous improvement of the quality of assistance, appreciation and motivation of the team, are some of the factors I highlight as essential, which impact the qualification of the care offered to the population,” emphasizes pediatric emergency nurse Miquéias Bailão Teixeira.

For the general director of PSRM, Carlos Vinicius Ribeiro Quadros, investing in education is to qualify assistance to increase safety in patient care, with assertive and improved care practices.
“All this care, all this planning we do is important for greater safety for both the professional performing the functions and for the patient who receives this knowledge in practice through health assistance. Certifying, congratulating, and rewarding professionals for the seriousness with which they treat professional development encourages adherence from professionals, and assertive practices, with evidenced quality, reflect in the care provided to the population,” says the manager.
